Beneficial rainfall is forecast across much of the drought-stricken Southern Plains over the next couple days. This is partly in response to a cold front pushing through the northern and central U.S. which is ushering in the coldest temperatures of the new autumn season. Several inches of rainfall will be possible through Saturday across parts of Texas and Oklahoma.

The internationally-recognized rock band Linkin Park has become the first band in the nation to receive StormReady® Supporter recognition, just in time for its 2012 world tour. Officials from the National Weather Service presented a letter of recognition and StormReady signs prior to the band’s concert at the Gexa Energy Pavilion in Dallas on August 27.
NOAA’s National Weather Service is halfway through the most significant enhancement ever
made to the nation’s radar network since Doppler radar was first installed in the early 1990s.
The upgrade will greatly improve weather forecasts for rain, winter storms, floods and tornadoes.

Dr. Pedro Restrepo, a native of Colombia, has come a long way since he
earned his undergraduate degree from the National University of Colombia in 1974. He was recently
named to the hydrologist-in-charge position at the National Weather Service’s North Central River Forecast Center in Chanhassen, Minn.
