MILFORD, Del. – Today, 200 job seekers came out to Milford High School for a veterans job fair hosted by U.S. Sens. Tom Carper, Chris Coons and U.S. Rep. John Carney (all D-Del.).

This year, the delegation held job fairs in all three of Delaware’s counties, matching hundreds of employers with those seeking jobs. Currently, there are approximately 857,000 unemployed veterans nation-wide. That is why Delaware’s Congressional Delegation is working toward reducing this number through outreach events.

“By holding job fairs throughout Delaware, our hope is to connect as many Delawareans to employers as possible,” said Sen. Carper, a 23-year veteran. “With the high number of unemployed veterans in the nation, our focus with today’s job fair was to honor our vets with free job-finding resources.”

“The men and women who serve in our armed forces come home with unique skills and tested leadership experience, bringing immense value to the employers who hire them,” said Senator Coons. “In talking with veterans and business owners it became clear that we needed to create opportunities for employers to meet these talented Americans.  This job fair helped make those connections, and I look forward to hearing success stories from veterans who landed new positions.”

“Veterans leave the service with skills that make them very valuable employees,” said Congressman Carney.  “Today’s job fair was about connecting those veterans with the companies that are hiring and can most use their talents.  I’m pleased that so many people attended, and I’m sure that many of the veterans found opportunities that will help them begin the next phase of their careers.”
