Audit, Inspection, and Evaluation Academy The Audit, Inspection, and Evaluation (AI & E) Academy continues to work with both the CIGIE Audit, and Inspections and Evaluation Committees to assess the training and professional development needs of each community. AI & E Specific Offerings for the Remainder of Fiscal Year 2012 Audit Peer Review The Federal Audit Executive Council (FAEC) will sponsor Peer Review training on August 16, 2012, at the National Science Foundation. To register, please send attendee names, agency and titles, and email addresses to: jhornste@nsf.gov by August 10th. For additional information, please see the FAEC webpage. Introductory Auditor Training Program The 2-week Introductory Auditor Training Program provides an overview of auditing in the federal government. The class exposes CIGIE entry-level auditors to GAGAS standards and skill sets with specific focus on planning, collecting evidence, interviewing, documenting work, communicating results, and writing reports. This class also offers sessions on detecting fraud and working with investigators, and provides participants the opportunity to attend a Congressional hearing. The class meets from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day except for the last day when it concludes at noon. Photo ~ June 2012 Introductory Auditor Training Program Participants The final class offering for this fiscal year will be held September 10-21, 2012, at the Residence Inn Pentagon City in Arlington, VA. Due to high demand, registration is closed.
I&E External Peer Review Training for the pilot CIGIE I&E external peer review project will be held on September 25, 2012, at HHS OIG in Washington, DC. The training is designed for those directly involved in either conducting or receiving an I&E external peer review in calendar year 2012. As such, enrollment will only be offered to I&E employees in those groups. The training will explore the benefits and potential outcomes of conducting external peer reviews for I&E units, as well as explain how the external peer review process will work. Please note that the following courses for CIGIE-member OIGs are being scheduled for fiscal year 2013. Additional courses may be added as they are developed. Information on specific dates and locations will be posted when it becomes available. Registration will occur through email notifications to CIGIE AI&E training contacts. Inspector General Authorities This course is offered as a collaborative effort among the Audit, Inspection & Evaluation Academy, the Leadership and Mission Support Academy, and the Council of Counsels to the IGs. This one-day course includes an overview of the legal authorities that created the federal Offices of Inspector General, assigned them mandatory obligations, and provided discretionary authority to carry out their assigned mission. The program will focus on the Inspector General Act of 1978 with its subsequent amendments, including the Reform Act of 2008 which created CIGIE. Introductory Auditor Training Program The Introductory Auditor Training Program provides an overview of auditing in the federal government. The class exposes CIGIE entry-level auditors to standards and skill sets with specific focus on planning, collecting evidence, interviewing, documenting work, communicating results, and writing reports. Overview of Audit and Inspection/Evaluation The Academy will pilot a 1-day course designed to familiarize non-auditor and non-inspector/evaluator CIGIE professionals with the standards and processes used by the audit and I&E communities in conducting their IG work. Peer Review Working with the Federal Audit Executive Council (FAEC), the Academy will sponsor Audit Peer Review training in conjunction with the 2013 Peer Review schedule. In conjunction with the I&E Roundtable, the Academy will sponsor External Peer Review training in conjunction with the 2012 and 2013 review schedules. Suspension and Debarment In conjunction with CIGIE?s Suspension and Debarment Committee, the Academy plans to offer a course that will raise awareness of suspension and debarment within the audit, I&E, and attorney communities. The course will demonstrate how audit, inspection, and evaluation work can produce and support suspension and debarment actions, and offer practical suggestions and techniques for increasing OIG pursuit of these remedies. Writing The Academy plans to pilot a few courses designed to help auditors, inspectors, and evaluators write clear, concise, and informative reports. Content will range from grammar and readability to message development and formulation of defensible recommendations. 2011 Yellow Book Revisions In partnering with the Academy, GAO will provide a briefing on the December 2011 revisions to the Government Auditing Standards.
