NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/4/10)--Sophomore Greg Marshall made a pair of free throws with eight seconds left as Coast Guard held on for a 62-59 win over John Jay in the Citizens Bank Camel/Cadet Classic at the Coast Guard Academy.

Coast Guard won both its games in the inaugural Camel/Cadet Classic to improve to 5-3 on the season while John Jay dropped to 4-3.

In the first half, the Bears led by as many as eight at 19-11 with 11:42 left in the first half, but the Bloodhounds used a 14-5 run to take its only lead of the game 25-24 with 3:42 left in the half.

The Bears responded with a 9-2 spurt to take a 33-27 lead into halftime.

Coast Guard took its largest lead of the game 52-40 on a basket by sophomore Jimmy Knudsen with ten minutes remaining.

Men's Swimming - Bears Win Easily at Conn. College

Orlando Morel won both diving events as the Bears beat Conn. College.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/4/10)--Junior Orlando Morel won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events as Coast Guard easily beat host and neighbor rival Connecticut College 205-94 to remain unbeaten improving to 5-0 in dual meets this season.

Morel finished with 226.35 points on the 1-meter board and 236.33 points on the 3-meter board.

Sophomore Kevin Smit also won a pair of event for Coast Guard as he won the 200 butterfly (1:57.38) and the 400 IM (4:21.62).

Men's Basketball - Sowers Leads Bears to OT Win

Kevin Sowers had a career-high 27 points and made all 15 of his free throws in the win.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/3/10)--Coast Guard scored the first 11 points in overtime and freshman Kevin Sowers had a career-high 27 points including 15 for 15 from the foul line as the Bears beat Medgar Evers 75-66 in overtime in the Citizen’s Bank Camel/Cadet Classic at Connecticut College.

Sowers was eight for eight from the foul line in the overtime and also finished with a game-high six assists. Coast Guard made 25 of 28 from the foul line in the game.

Senior Jevon James opened the scoring in overtime before sophomore Greg Marshall made a pair of free throws and then hit a 3-pointer for a 67-60 lead with 2:23 left. Sowers then made four straight free throws as the Bears stretched the lead to 71-60 with 1:22 left.

Marshall finished with 15 points while senior Jevon James and sophomore Jimmy Knudsen each recorded a double-double as James finished with ten points and 11 rebounds and Knudsen had ten points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Volleyball - Anderson Named Academic All-American

Jessica Anderson became just the second Coast Guard volleyball player to earn Academic All-America honors.
NEW LONDON, CONN.--(12/1/10)--Coast Guard senior libero Jessica Anderson has been named to the ESPN Academic All-America College Division Volleyball third team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Anderson becomes just the second Coast Guard volleyball player to be named an Academic All-American. Lis Bosma was a second team selection in 2004.

The senior co-captain, is a three-time member of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic team. She is the Bears' all-time leader with 1,649 digs and set the single-season school record with 556 digs this season.

Anderson and the Bears finished 30-6 overall and won the NEWMAC tournament championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
