‘Worst Episode Ever’: People Are Furious At Jamie Foxx’s ‘SNL’ For All The Wrong Reasons

12.10.12 Written by Josh Kurp

If you didn’t like this weekend’s SNL, with host Jamie Foxx, because the political cold open was too tame, that’s understandable. Or if you thought “Bitch, What’s the Answer?” could have used a rewrite or 17 and the Alex Cross/Madea spoof was dated, makes sense. After an underwhelming first half, I thought the episode rebounded nicely in the second, with “Maine Justice,” “Swarovski Crystals,” and “Dylan McDermott or Dermot Mulroney” ranking among the season’s best sketches. But many didn’t make it that far; thousands didn’t even make it past the monologue, if Twitter’s to be believed. How come? Well, to paraphrase, “Most. Racist. Episode. Ever.”

‘SNL’ Recap: Jamie Foxx And Ne-Yo

12.09.12 Written by Josh Kurp
[image]

If you went to sleep before Ne-Yo’s first musical performance during last night’s SNL because all you had seen so far was a disappointing cold open, yet another musical monologue, a game show based around saying the word “bitch” as much as possible, and a recurring sketch about white people pretending to be Japanese, like I did before finishing the episode this morning, I urge you to go back and watch the rest of the episode. A weak beginning was completely wiped away by a strong finish. Except for that “bitch” thing. That was just terrible.

Django Unchained star/host Jamie Foxx was good. Very good, in fact. Remember how excited Jeremy Renner looked two weeks ago before his piano stopped working during the monologue, at which he began to resemble a stock photo model for “end of the world terror”? Foxx had that pre-malfunction look in his eyes the entire episode; he danced, he jumped, he insulted the audience (more on that later), he seemed excited to be there, and although he tripped over his lines a few times, it was never distracting. If anything, like Stefon’s chuckles, it only helped the sketch. To paraphrase (and mutilate) Foxx’s monologue, how good was that? Very.

'Star Trek Into Darkness' probably has Khan as a villain. That's a good idea. Reminding us of 'Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan?' Not a good idea!

Bill Murray Made Arguably The Best Entrance Any Letterman Guest Has Ever Made Last Night

12.07.12 Written by The Cajun Boy

Oh Bill Murray. Where do we even begin with this guy? Our love simply knows know bounds. And perhaps the only things we around here love more than Bill Murray are Bill Murray appearances on Letterman. They are usually funny and memorable. Last night was no different.

In the clip below, Murray makes an entrance unlike any I’ve ever seen on the show, complete with him getting fake tasered by the goons who brought him to the theater bound in the back of an SUV. Later, he and Letterman hilariously recreate the lighting of the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The only disappointment in this is that Murray wasn’t wearing the Murray’s Cheese Shop t-shirt he bought the other day.

A Brief Tribute To Britta Perry’s Inspirational ‘Me So Christmas’ Song And Dance

12.06.12 Written by Maske

The biggest bummer/travesty/bummavesty of the Community postponement (unless we can somehow blame NBC for the tragic misuse of Joel McHale on SOA) is the lack of appropriately timed holiday-themed episodes. I’m a stickler for order and continuity, so the idea of being denied Community Halloween and Christmas episodes that help define the seasons on the internet is a borderline injustice.

Instead of wallowing, how about we take a moment to discuss a scene from last year’s “Regional Holiday Music” episode that’s near and dear to my heart: Britta’s tree dance/”me so Christmas”/heart’s song. Everything about it — from the random hilarity to the Britta-ness to Gillian Jacobs’s ain’t care attitude to the awkward sexuality of the spectacle — makes me happy.

To start, let’s re-watch…
