Staffers Killed in Attack on Syria TV Station

BEIRUT—Syria's state-run news agency says gunmen have attacked the headquarters of a pro-government TV station, killing three employees.

SANA says the attack on Ikhbariya TV in the town of Drousha, about 20 kilometers (14 miles) south of the capital Damascus, occurred early Wednesday.

An employee at the station said that the gunmen stormed two of the station's buildings, detained some of the guards then blew up parts of it with explosives.

Ikhbariya is privately owned but strongly supports President Bashar Assad's regime.

Meanwhile, a senior U.N. official said violence in Syria has "reached or even surpassed" levels seen before the cease-fire agreement of April 12.

The U.N.'s deputy envoy for Syria, Jean-Marie Guehenno, says the six-point plan forged by his boss, Kofi Annan, "is clearly not being implemented."

Mr. Guehenno said the Syrian government and rebel groups must be made to understand that there are "consequences" for failure to implement the plan.

Mr. Guehenno's statement to the U.N. Human Rights Council on Wednesday comes days before a high-level meeting of world powers Saturday in Geneva to discuss the situation in Syria.
