Tens of thousands of Egyptians have converged on Tahrir Square to mark the one-year anniversary of the revolution that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.

It is by now a familiar sight: The square has been the site of dozens of protests over the last twelve months. Egyptians from all segments of society have come out to protest, some for democratic reforms, others for human rights, still others in support of an Islamic state. Similar protests have played out in other cities across the country.

This interactive timeline highlights the major protests, in Cairo and elsewhere, which began one year ago and have continued to this day. It will play automatically, or you can hover over the markers on the timeline to view a specific protest.
