So the attempt to convert Instagram into a stock photo agency that doesn't have to pay royalties to photographers has failed for now:

The only reason I post to Instagram is to actually have some level of activity show up on Facebook, so my parents still think I'm alive... I'm sure my mom won't mind seeing my name splattered across my uploads.
Ultimately, this should be enough to make this image completely useless for selling, but if Instagram is looking for buyers, maybe one of them will use my name & username as a lead to contact me instead ;) -- I don't see that happening, really, but it would be hilarious. Here's to hoping.

- PublicTook a few minutes (closer to 30min) but I've gone through and deleted all my photo uploads from Instagram.
I only had about 160 uploads, since I just figured Instagram was a dumb iOS only photo platform, but, after some nudging and after an Android release, I tried it out... Now that they're openly talking about making the photo content on their site, virtually, a stock photography site, without compensation...Expand this post »

I don't really pick "best" shots of my stuff, but I've been told - this is the best shot of 2012 from me. Santa Monica beach, California, shot in February at a photowalk.

You can also do a comm-only search by typing your search term into the regular search bar and, on the results page, choosing `Communities' from the drop-down menu. It's the same way you search for, say, specific people or pages, or a post you made a year ago or whatever.

Expand this comment »+Terry Barker also, I agree. there's something vacant about the "happy holidays" season now that's simply "nothing like it used to be". it reminds me of the George Carlin bit where he talks about "PTSD" versus "Shell Shock". We water things down to avoid appearing to have an opinion about something in one way or the other... the new fear of offending someone for putting out Christmas decorations and gasp excluding those who don't celebrate Christmas has somehow allow us to lose the potential for tradition. Instead of simply building a tradition to be inclusive, we've shattered it, and turned it into "throw up some lights, put out some flowers, and have a few sales". Sad.
