Romney looks for new fundraising sources

Mitt Romney made aggressive fundraising on both coasts and in Florida a huge priority going back two years, intent on locking up the so-called John McCain/Rudy Giuliani cash that he was shut out of in 2008. His chief fundraiser Spencer Zwick had just come off a stint with Meg Whitman's California campaign, where he expanded his rolodex of contacts.

The Obama campaign's fundraising report for May shows the team's spending levels continue, with a burn rate north of 110 percent, according to POLITICO's breakdown on the home page. It still has a large hunk of cash on hand, $114 million, but Republicans have been scoring big on fundraising.
