Military advises administrative punishment for 7 troops in Quran burning

The U.S. military has recommended administrative punishments, but no criminal charges, for as many as seven troops involved in the burning of Muslim holy books at a NATO base in Afghanistan that sparked deadly clashes.

A military official told NBC News that a classified investigation into how service members burned copies of the Quran earlier this year is now complete.

The investigation made its way to the Pentagon a few days ago and is now in the hands of the service branch chiefs for review.

The investigative report recommends that U.S. Army soldiers and at least one U.S. Navy sailor receive the punishment -- likely a letter of reprimand or a drop in rank and pay -- for their roles in the book burnings.

As many as 12 service members were involved in the chain of events that led to the burning of the religious materials, the military official said, adding that more punishments could be coming.

At least one of the soldiers involved is an officer, the official told NBC News.

None of the names of the military members involved have been released.

The burning took place in February when several Qurans were thrown in the garbage and then sent to the burn pit for incineration. The actions set off days of violent riots throughout Afghanistan.

The incident tapped into anti-foreign sentiment fueled by a popular perception that foreign troops disrespect Afghan culture and Islam.

NATO later apologized for the burning of the holy texts.

If the military can punish personal for burning the Quran , then could that open the door for the Fedural Gov. to prosecute any cilvilan for burning the Quran ?

No, this was only for military members. Any time something bad happens or people get upset, somebody has to pay for it and it's always those lower on the totem pole, regardless of who is actually at fault. Military justice is an oxymoron.

Personally I think their punishment should be to round up as many qurans as they can find, and sh*t on every one of them, THEN burn them. Then I would give them a medal.

"Popular perception" !!! Are they crazy? They have nothing but disrespect for the quran and islam and their culture. There is NOTHING there to respect. They are all going to Hell anyway, if they don't repent and turn to Christ. Don't misunderstand me, they have their right to believe as they wish, but if they attempt (and they do) to criminalize me for not bowing down to that trash, to be politically correct and appease them, well.... there is a saying I could put in here but I would be banned.

Personally, I have respected for different culture and such. However, I am not sure what is the bad thing from burning Koran in this case.

From what I understand, they used the Koran as a way to communicate, meaning they already disrespect the Koran by writing things on it. Now what would you expect US soldier to do?

If they tears the Koran to pieces, that would be as bad.

Burning? already tried that.

Water the Koran? Probably receive the same treatment.

Tears the pages out? Same treatment.

Oh I know, put it on pedestal? already tried that and they used it for communication.

Ok, I am at lost now.

How dare you post this article MSN, the only response I expect from writing this article will be an uproar from Muslims for the militarys "Failure" to properly punish these individuals with Prison time/death. If any Americans die in Afghanistan due to Muslims rioting over this news the author of this article should be put to trial for accessory to murder. Way to turn your back on your own country MSN!

The righteous indignation expressed by some writer's on this thread is too much. Why wasn't it espressed when the US entered into this IMMORAL WAR?

These guys violated standing orders when they went ahead and burned the books. THAT is what they are in trouble for. Doesn't matter if what they were told not to mistreat or burn was the Koran or for mistreating your dirty shorts. They violated standing orders.

If you think that's a problem then you're clueless about military regulations and rules.

And you may not give a damm about actions that our soldiers take that intentionally inflames the hatred of us and then causes more lives to be lost against them - but the rest of us who think rationally and think past then end of our emotions do care about the impact of stupid behavior.

Interesting, considering the military rounded up thousands of bibles and had them burned on (military instalations) just to satisfy and not offend the peace-loving people of islam.

The soldiers should have just said they were expressing themselves artistically. I personally am thinking of placing a quaran in a jar of urine and putting on display in NY as art.

No failure to submit to the misogynist seventh century dogma of Mohammad is the cause of the conflict.

" Al wala wal bara", is the theory that a Muslim should hate the Infidel (non-Muslim) just as much as he
loves allah. Now don't get me wrong, I thank the "black stone"of the kabba every day, that so few of it's submitters, listen to such nonsense.

Al Wala' Wal Bara' (Love and Hate for Allah's Sake)

Al Wala Wal Bara

In the current modern age, we find the Muslims in a pit of darkness. The Muslims of today have adopted the ways of the enemy. They forbid the good and enjoin the forbidden. They imitate the disbelievers and choose them as their friends and trustees. They mock believers who oppose the ways of the disbelievers and hypocrites. They help to deviate people from the Path of Allah and His Messenger (sallallahu alaiyhi wa sallam). They have left jihad for the pleasures and pursuits of the material world. They have abandoned Shariah and adopted Jahiliyyah. These people have strayed from the Straight Path and they have turned away from al wala wal bara, and as a result, have fallen into the trap of Shaytaan.

that "Al wala wal bara" concept, leads directly to such things as this video, from a Saudi religious scholar

Saudi Cleric Muhammad Al-Arifi: "One's Will to Shed Blood, Smash Skulls, and Chop Off Body Parts for the Sake of Allah" Is an Honor for the Believer

and he is not some crackpot, here is who is staring in the video.(sourced byWikipedia)

Muhammad Al-Arifi is a theologian Saudi. He holds the position of Imam of the Mosque of the academy "King Fahd" of the Saudi Navy. He is a student of Ibn Baz. His books are very famous in the Muslim world.

Excuse me, but that's just downright hateful.

Just how does this Saudi Islamic scholar, misunderstand Islam so mush?

If allah is a god, why would it need humans to commit murder, couldn't it just think it, and make it happen

But if "allah" is just a rock (the black stone of the kabba) it would need a helping hand, because rocks are inanimate objects, right?

It sounds like more catering to Muslims. In the US we quickly bend over and cater to a religion that treats its women like second class citizens, forces it's women to cover themselves, and in some states we even allow the women to remain covered for ID photos. Several Islamic terrorists have been born in the US and left only to fight against our culture.

If these soldiers burned a Quran, then you bore them with sensitivity training and have them clean a few barracks or put them on KP("kitchen patrol" or kitchen duties), but anything beyond that shows a weakness and willingness to cater to another culture that does not and has never had our best interests in mind.

They were probably following someone else's orders higher up in the chain of command, now they have to be punished for following those orders. The officer involved will get the letter and the enlisted will lose pay and be dropped to a lower rank - that's how it usually works.

1) we don't belong in Afghanistan

2) how would we feel if a foreign military invaded the US and picked targets to kill via drones? In the meanwhile, they burn KIng James Versions of the Christian Bible

3) We've had our share of killing Afghani civilians--on purpose and accidentally.

We have no moral high ground to stand on. We continue to increase the size and scope of our military while chopping away at education, infrastructure, etc.. The end of an empire is approaching.

As I am a christian believer and a retired military serviceman, I can understand...to a point...dishing out administrative punishment. While in uniform and even out of uniform a serviceman represents the United States, not just themselves. BUT, would the US demand the same from a foreign military who decided to burn a cache of bibles? Or how about burning of the American Flag? The only instance a US Flag should be burn is if the flag is to be retired or if the flag should be soiled by falling to the ground...and then it should be burned with proper ceremony. I am sure this will bring up a lot of comments about the right to burn the flag but as I served for 25 years, participated in 2 wars and a number of other conflicts, saw many of my friends and brothers and sisters in arms die for the stars and stripes and think about the over 2 million men and women who died since the revolution to keep the flag and what it represents for freedom, your comments on this matter will fall on deaf ears here. No matter your reasons or ideologies, your in this position of freedom because of them!

Now I read that these Quran's were confiscated from insurgents and contained written plans ? If this was the case, then why is this a public news item ? Apparently we don't have all the facts or someone is changing the facts, I'm not sure what to believe of this story anymore.

1) If there was sensitive information it should have been handled discreetly (and I assume would have been) and this should never have been a public story.

I don't burn nor throw away any religious books. I always donate them. A personal preference you might say. I am retired Army and I think the only way soldiers could receive Administrative Punishment, which is a Commanders Article 15 or a Regular Article 15 is if the soldier had knowledge or should have had knowledge of what they were doing was wrong. It is not illegal to burn the flag nor an American Bible, but apparently the Koran in Afghanistan is more sacred to the United States Military. Maybe the soldiers were briefed upon arrival to not burn the Koran nor deface it. Then an Article 15 could be given. Good luck to the soldiers. The Officer's Career is over for sure. I bet he did a good job while in Afghanistan otherwise.

@ Ben1986 and unbelievable- Yes the so-called "journalism" of Watergate is finished, as most reporters have so much on their plates, they are not allowed to do a genuine investigation. The new "news" outlets are primarily owned by only a handful of huge corporations who need the public to be distracted by "hot-button issues", and be engaged in discourse so as not to focus on how their middle class lives are being sold down the river by greedy immoral rich elites for the "Orwellian" future that is upon us right now.

Big oil continues to claim record profits yet when gas goes up they cry "supply and demand" and in turn threaten that if they don't get their huge tax right offs, that gas will go up in price, creating economic turmoil.

Who really profits from illegal alien workers ? The rich elite, because it drives down wages of American workers.

Anyone who thinks these issues are not directly related, needs to open their eyes to the travesty that is being put upon the American middle class. As long as we are distracted with meaningless trivia the insider trading will continue, the CEO's of failing companies will continue to receive their huge severance packages and stock options, etc.............get the point ?

This is politically correct BS. Those books were put in the trash to be burned because they had been defaced with writing in them consisting of anti-American rhetoric and other inflammatory garbage. The books were no longer fit for use by other prisoners and needed to be thrown away. These military personnel did nothing wrong and, in fact, under the rules of Islam the proper way to get rid of a defaced Quran is to burn it. The idiots in Afghanistan made a big deal out of nothing and the military is only perpetuating this with this ridiculous disciplinary action. The military is trying to appease the Afghanis by disciplining these service members when they in fact did absolutely nothing wrong. The Afghan government and the local twisted what happened to score political points and to justify attacks on US service members. Absolutely nothing improper was done and to discipline these service members in an attempt to make some BS politically correct gesture to the Afghanis is completely absurd.

JS in SD - you come through again ! Finally I am hearing something that makes some sense !!

Much to do about nothing really very important, and another "news-light" story that served it's purpose to its corporate stock owners:

( Distract the public with incomplete stories and keep people focused on anything but how big corporations, big banks, Wall Street and corrupt lazy selfish politicians are ruining the middle class at an alarming rate, so as to push their "Orwellian" agenda upon the public at large )

( we're too big to fail )

( we need our tax right offs or else )

( the temperature control for all HOME DEPOT outlets will be controlled at the HQ in Atlanta, GA )

( CARGILL will make big profits from ethanol, even if it requires 1 gallon of diesel fuel to produce 2 gallons of ethanol )

( MONSANTO will continue to produce pesticides even if they(ROUND UP™) are harmful to developing fetuses, and even if France has banned their products because bees are losing their memories )

( FLUORIDE should be added to drinking water even though it is not safe because the FDA says it's not a "food or drug" so they won't regulate it, and the EPA says it's the FDA who should regulate it, etc...and so what if it's harmful to the pineal gland, as doctors and scientists can't agree on what it's real purpose is anyways)

( we need more illegal immigrants to exploit for cheap labor or we'll have to move our factories to Mexico, what..? we can get it done cheaper somewhere else ? )

Here's a lil food for thought, the only reason they even tolerate us on any level is because they have to sell their oil to us. What happens when they have no more oil? A lot of straight up bigotry going on here.

If they burned bibles, would they get the same punishment?

It depends, were their orders not to burn Bibles? Were they employing numerous religiously sensitive Christians in a country we invaded to burn garbage, and stupidly decided to throw Bibles in on the pile? It should be obvious with anyone rubbing two brain-cells together, that burning Korans.. defaced or not... when on a 'hearts and minds' campaign in a heavily Muslim country while employing Muslims to work the burn dump - is stupid, very stupid. It's just asking for trouble, whether or not you agree with the practice of burning holy books. I could care less if someone took a dump on a Bible/Koran, but there are times to do it, and times NOT to do it.

No failure to submit to the misogynist seventh century dogma of Mohammad is the cause of the conflict.

Or their failure not to submit to the misogynist 2nd Century dogma of Peter? lol get real. It's all a bunch of "we're going to heaven, you're not, it's ok to kill everyone who isn't"

these soldiers HAVE to be set free and charges dropped

Why? So we look even more like a bunch of religious bigots? Also - if you haven't noticed, they will undergo admistrative punishment.... they don't need to be 'set free' from anywhere.

Its ok to burn the US Flag

Not as a military service member while on duty, neither would burning a Bible be permitted due to the Religious Freedom policies that all Federal employees must adhere to. Such 'freedom of expression' is limited when you are an active representative of the United States under the employ of the Government.

but don't disrespect their book or you will be courtmarshalled

In case you didn't notice, the 1st Amendment of the Constitution guarantees religious freedom - that includes Islam, so as representatives of that Constitution, our servicemembers are expected to adhere to American values by showing at least a certain amount of civility toward all religions.

The reasoning behind burning those particular Quran's was pretty sound. Making local Muslim contractors tote them to the burn pit, not a good idea. Is like handing the enemy a weapon and saying "here, now shoot yourself", and then being surprised when they shoot you instead.

but it's a difficult task to figure out which ones are dumber. the ones that pervert thier religion to harm others or the ones that pervert thier religion AND what this country stands for in order to treat others like they aren't even human.

I have never read such bigoted hatred in my life, you Americans are a pack of weird, horrible, god bothering freaks. The hatred you praise is so unjustified, arrogant, nasty and horrible.

If you have an history book near your Bible, give it a read and see for yourself that you have lost the war in Afghanistan as you did in Vietnam etc etc etc.

See what happened to the USSR in 1979 when they tried to invade Afghanistan, they were F&%$@d in 10 years, are you are now.

Your country is going down the drain and will never be the US of A as it was pre GW Bush, I will be around to see it, and it will make me smile, with a lot of my country men along side me.

          You pack of FREAKS.

GW Bush was the biggest terrorist the world has ever seen, and history will prove it,

This is the USA we live in today. The very American's supporting this action claim the Bible is "just a book" or "fairytale" yet they think American soliders should be punished for burning the oh so sacred Quran.

We can kill em with guided missles fired from pilotless drones all day but don't burn that book...you might hurt somebodies feelings.

Logic does not rule in this situation. Kill em but don't offend them. Liberal supporters of the king heckle children for singing God Bless the USA by telling them they will burn in hell. We are living in Wonderland trying to find our way out before the King of Hearts chops our heads off.

            Don't be dense.

If we were invading some heavily Christian country and on a 'hearts and minds' campaign trying to mitigate the perception that we're on some religious crusade against an entire religion --- and some troops handed over Bibles to the local Christians to throw in the burn pile - they would deserve punishment too for undermining the mission.

I could care less if someone burns any holy book, but there are times to do it, and times not to do it. When in uniform and representing this country, it's NOT the time to express your bigotry for any religion, no matter how vile you think it is personally.

The argument that some these Qurans had been used by prisoners to communicate is meaningless. The prisoners no longer had the books, remember. They could have been placed on a pallet in the street with a Free Qurans sign on them and from a strategic standpoint probably would have made no difference by then. If they did still pose a real threat then whoever made the decision to turn them over to Afghans to burn needs an IQ check at a minimum.

This is rediculous!! There is nothing criminal about burning books. These scum of the earth people burn bibles and there are no riots, killing, christians rolling around on the ground screaming and throwing dirt into their armpits. These military people are to be punished for showing disrespect to the Afghan people and islamic "culture"? There is no culture in islam - they are stone-age barbarians not worth pissing on if they are on fire. And the Afghan people? Afghan men have more frequent sexual relations with their goats and camels than with their wives. Give these soldiers a break, a verbal reprimand with the "wink" this petty "crime" deserves, and bring them ALL home! It is a gross insult to our country, our military and the people and militaries of other free nations to be risking life and limb in military actions in countries populated by animals that would go insane over a burned book; a book written by barbarians, for barbarians and promoting the idea that everyone must be a barbarian also, or dead. Screw them all - screw islam, screw the quran, screw their beliefs, screw their fake barbaric prophet.

just goes to show you, once again, that violence and murder work. the "msulim world" has proven over and over again that if you slaughter everyone in sight every time you are "offended" than everyone will quit offending you, maybe it's time the "christian world" started slaughtering everyone in sight every time they are offended. just think, if catholics were rioting in the streets murdering every person they saw then maybe obama would back down on having them cover contraceptives. hey, it's worth a shot, as it seems the only voice our government hears is the one of the murderers

the fact that the military would punish our fighting men and women because they burned a book that is nothing less than anti-Christian is stupidity to it's lowest form. i suppose that the next thing coming up is that our fighting forces will be punished if they shoot the enemy more than once; considering it a hate crime! what do you think, if one of our soldiers was about to get shot by the enemy and he told them he was against the burning of the koran, think they'ed spare him/her??!!!

Dude, it's not 'criminal' - it's Non-Judicial-Punishment. Which is, in the MILITARY, you can be punished for doing something stupid which undermines the mission. Turning Korans over to the locals to burn qualifies as something stupid which undermines the mission.

sick prophet any deference, any belief, any recognition and above all - any respect AT ALL

You don't, I don't - but as a military person on duty, your freedoms of expression are extremely limited, especially under Religious Freedom policies set forth by the Pentagon in which all servicemembers and federal employees must adhere to.

I am Army...all the way...we serve as, all the militia, to protect America and the freedoms we represent. Yet, the countries we have fought with and for have consistently burned our Flags and our religious icons....be it Bibles or Crosses (of the Christ or David). These things represent our blood, tears and fallen comrades....we have now, no right to express our condemnation of irresponsible nations, creeds and holy wars. We can only stand and be shot at and betrayed by our own country. God forgive me for my anger. What can WE do? How do we express our discontent with our government if we are soldiers. Forgive me.

                      Hi,

                      I would start by:

                      1. Informing any person that joining the military service is a sham and the only service to our country is in support for the rich people's gain.

                      2. Telling the world that we are sick of our sick and corrupt government that only supports the other people of the world. It seems our people can goto hello.

                      3. Refuse to go to war for anything other than direct defense of our country. Let the rest of the world rot in hell.

                      4. Let it be known that if we go to war, we will fight the war our way, which is go in kill the enemy (military or civilian) destroy all their homes, belongings, women children etc. and then tell them when they are completely ruined have a nice day invite us back again when you want another war, and then just leave. The hell with rebuilding their country. All we do is lose American lives trying to help.

                      5. File criminal charges against the corrupt politicians who are profiting from this junk, and spending our tax money for someone else. How about our seniors, our retired, our war vets. WE DON'T HAVE MONEY FOR THEM, BUT TO GIVE IT TO SOME RAGHEAD MUSLIM ISLAMIC MURDERS IS BS.

                      6. Last and not least is turn your tax credits up so you get the most money back in your paycheck during your pay period, then at the end of the year, fill out your tax form with your name, address etc. for personnel things but no numbers for your tax form, then write across the front of the form "When the government learns how to spend our money, I will start paying taxes again". Our seniors, military, police, firemen, state workers, etc. our losing their pensions, but it seems that our politicians pensions get bigger every year, and our country goes deeper in debt. Pennsylvania, California.

Our cities are run by crooks or people looking to put the most in their pockets, they serve themselves and not us the people. Make all politicians be accountable for our tax dollar. Stop giving countries like Pakistan, India, Iraq, and Afghanistan our money to be our friends. If they attack us give them the above mentioned war.

Stop the illegal immigrants from coming in this country and ruining it, we have laws, and they should be enforced. All the Hispanics are doing is selling drugs, forming gangs and terrorizing the country. Pretty soon we will need an army just to patrol the cities. Arizona is sick of it, we should be also.

Fook Osama Obama for his "We have to help these poor people out" What about our REAL CITIZENS THAT NEED HELP. He cuts back on their cola's so we have more to give to the illegals.

Revolution, NO. Citizens taking back charge of the country through legal means, yes, GET OUT AND VOTE!!! In Wilkes Barre Pennsylvania, 47,000 people only 7,000 voted, but the people don't like the way the country is being run. Hello, more illegals probably snuck in and voted and weren't caught, they like the idea of being able to vote since their countries don't allow it. They are taking over our country because our people won't wake up.

My rant for today if you like it , check the box, if you think I am wrong, go yourself.

Contrary to popular belief, our mission in Afghanistan is not to eradicate Islam.

Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can acknowledge the fact that attempts to eradicate any religion through force is incredibly counterproductive. History is full of such attempts, and history is full of backlashes against such attempts that ultimately result in the downfall of those doing the eradicating.

Then, how, does one reduce radicalism? Assimilation and cultural mixing, mutual understanding, secular government, and setting a good example. Also, it sometimes helps to try to talk sense into the radicals - much like I'm doing right now.

Any American who thinks that it is ever okay for soldiers to burn books has no right to claim to be a true American. It isn't about whether it is okay to burn certain books or not; it is about whether it is ever okay for soldiers to burn books, period, and the answer is no. Burning books is more anti-American than anything else that this nation has ever done that conflicted with its own foundational values.

"Where books are burned, there will people be burned also."

This is the United States of America, for God's sake. Some of you self-proclaimed patriots need to ask yourselves whether your "patriotism" is actually nationalism masquerading as such. Book-burning by soldiers is not compatible with American values. If you think otherwise, you really do need to be in Afghanistan.

                          @Shandril:

You better believe that Quran-burning probably saved a bunch of American lives. They contained dangerous information, but you won't hear that from the left-wing news media outlets. No, they want to paint the American troops as 'heartless savages'. That is anti-American behavior. If burning a pile of books to save American troops' lives is anti-American, then perhaps those people (such as yourself) who believe as such should go serve a 7-month tour in Afcrapistan.

My husband has served numerous tours over there in that hellhole, and this is the thanks people like you give for being sent into a war that he knows is b/s, but he has sworn to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. If that Quran-burning potentially saved his life, and those of his peers, then I am grateful.

Maybe you should blame the president and the party that sent him to a country in a what you call a B/S war. We wouldn't have to deal with these issues if we weren't there. I wonder if Romney is elected if he'll try and tie Bush1 with 1 war, Bush 2 with 2 wars or set a record?

@ Shandril, are you writing to the chorus here or was that a general anti-war statement? I interpreted your comment as meaning that the mindless burning of books is counter intuitive to the freedoms we (U.S. Citizens) enjoy and fight for. Obviously, our Military isn't going around waging holy war and burning religious books in Afghanistan as a tactic. I can understand the sentiment of people posting here and certainly respect our troops but agree that inciting more violence by burning korans is pretty short sighted. The way I see it, we have three choices: 1) Fight the war there. 2) Circle wagons, contain it and watch it implode or 3) Get out of there.

Those books were confiscated from insurgents, and they contained dangerous enemy communications and intel. In WWII, when an enemy soldier was killed, anything (papers, ammunition, etc.) on his person that could harm the U.S. or allies, was taken and given to commanders, then promptly destroyed. Same situation.

and they use mosques as command centers, so obviously turning them over to the local mosque to be destroyed would be a mistake. Why the mainstream news chooses to leave those little details out in order to demonize U.S. troops is something I will never understand.

                          Hi,

I totally agree with you, we should have left the books alone and napalmed the rest of the country. The people over there have no respect for life, they kill their own people in order to fight us, and then when we accidentally kill one of them, they use it to rile up the idiots living over there, just like they used the burning of the Koran to fight and kill us. That's why we should leave the books alone, they won't harm us, burn the idiotic people over there, they will harm us. Just think we kill them all, then Mrs. wally world can move in and open up an Afy Wal Fart with a huge parking lot.

By the way thanks to all our military that our fighting these wars,

Thank You, for what you think is the defense of our country, but now I think you should all leave telling the politicians that if they want any more fighting over there send their own sons. You won the war, but fighting the way that you are is a losing fight. You weren't made to police or train a bunch of moronic idiots for freedom, you were trained for winning a war, destroying the enemy and KICKING ASS!!! that you have done, We the American people appreciate it. Whether it be this year, next year or in the future those people will turn back into the monstrosity that they once where. A bunch of murdering animals, they have been that way for thousands of years, the only way to win is complete and total destruction of the population over there. These people aren't human, they are animals. They have no care for peace. If I am wrong, hey blog me, and let me know if you are military, haven't been there in the last 20 years. Maybe something has changed (right).

Geez Sham-drill, I think you missed the point.

                            1. It wasn't a bunch of Nasty Americans going around door to door collecting Korans and burning them rather the Korans were burned for a reason. A completely understandable reason which you may have missed. Damn it!!! Please look before you spew BS.

                            2. I am really tired of the same old "Americans did this action which caused that reaction" BS. Muslims do not want to co exist plain and simple. Once I see A MAJORITY of Muslims play nicely in the sandbox with the rest of the world I will support it but until then I will fully support my brothers in arms through thick and thin.

                            3. I do not support the war or presence in either Iraq or Afghanistan. I feel we should have hit and destroyed any threat that existed and left. I cannot stand our guys being over there in that political Bull Crap. I did support the strikes absolutely but not the maintained presence.

                            4. You need to travel to various countries before you open your mouth so wide against this great country. Compared to other countries, the United States of America has a very diverse culture, government and society as opposed to countries with One religion, one race governments. US culture is open, accepting and overly generous. Do not Crap on your brother citizens over a closed minded anarchist group of prehistoric thugs.

Your thought process is the Big Bad Bully Americans just burned a bunch of Korans they violently took from a bunch of bamby like inocent muslim boyscouts. Is that what you really think it is??

Those guys destroyed possible communications between possibly dangerous prisoners and nothing more. They were also doing what they were told to do. Thats it.

‘The true servants of the Most Merciful are those who behave gently and with humility on earth, and whenever the foolish quarrel with them, they reply with [words of] peace.’

I am bombarded with stories of atrocities every day in the muslim world, mostly muslims killing muslims. It is very hard to think well of people who cannot seem to quell the evil that is within their own ranks for some reason. Your religion has been hi-jacked for all practical purposes, and for that I sympathize with you. How are we to distinguish a REAL muslim from a muslim who's only goal is to kill the infidels?

It isn't the book that kills it is the people that kill. Never read your book, but your own people who murder and kill use it for hate. The American people are a loving caring people, oh BS, they are corrupt and only care about how much money they can stick in their pockets, their politicians, judges, President, business's etc. are so corrupt today they all need to be voted out, and criminal charges filed against the lot of them, but the American people are a bunch of "it is what it is and that's all that it is" as they all play with their iphones, and Ipads. As long as they can play bubble bobble and angry birds, and write nonsense text they are happy and the world is great. They don't see America being stolen right from underneath them.

American soldiers and our citizens have been taught to view the Islamic culture as a threat to our society. I personally believe that not all people who believe in Allah are truly bad people. I cannot say for a fact that the Koran states to kill all non-followers of Allah. I have heard that Islam is a very peaceful religion and does not permit the killing of other people. I do know for a fact that Christianity tries to claim that all non-believers in Christ being our savior is going to stop these people to make it to heaven. If someone happens to burn our Bible, would you be upset? I am asking those who just went and burned the Koran how would they feel if someone burned your Bible to get back at you? You would be upset too. Don't try and start fights with people of a different belief system unless you truly know all the facts first. Are you positive that all people who believe in Allah are here to hurt you? Probably not. I am sure there are a lot of nice Muslims just as there are nice Christians in this world together. If you represent Christianity in a hostile manner, then this is no longer being a good Christian. Christians are supposed to be accepting and loving people regardless of what other people happen to believe in. I am assuming that these soldiers are Christians. I could be wrong, but I am guessing. You have been conditioned to see the Koran as your enemy. Now, you have to learn the real truth and why we are all here. This is the United States of America. We are here to represent all choices of religion...not just one.

These men should be punished for what they have done but it is not all their fault how they have reacted. They most likely have these feelings due to what they have been taught and conditioned how to react towards what we thought was our enemy. There is no more war now. This means we should have no enemies. We need to all get along and start to understand each other and our differences. This is why we formed the United States of America in the first place. We are supposed to be a melting pot of all religions and cultures with the freedom of speech and expression. But, when we express ourselves in a manner that causes anger towards people of different beliefs in such a way that it causes hatred and induces physical harm, these actions must be stopped. This is what we call hate crimes. Please understand the severity of your actions and do not let this happen again. We are all here to get along. I can feel your pain but you are placing it in the wrong direction. Please try and see things from the other side of the coin. How do you think the people of Iraq and Afghanistan feel now that we have killed so many of their families? They hurt too. And I hurt as well from having to see all of this.

I don't need to read anything to know where the problem is. Muslims are involved in 95% of the terrorist attacks in countless countries for countless reasons. When's the last time you heard a Christian committing an act of terrorism. In the few countries in Africa where Christians are at war they're defending themselves against Muslims. Trying to point out good passages from the Quran and bad ones from the bible just make you look foolish. Christians learned tolerance towards others centuires ago, It's time Muslims did.

That's a laugh; tell that to the people of Mecca after Mohammed conquered them. The religion started as a militaristic empire. They are quite comfortable with killing people - even their own. Ever heard of honor killings? If you don't believe me, go to a public market in Afghanistan and start insulting the prophet Mohammed - I give you 15 minutes before you have to run for your life.

I am asking those who just went and burned the Koran how would they feel if someone burned your Bible to get back at you?

First, it is my understanding that this was a mistake and not intentional. Second, the US military seized several Bibles from people looking to distribute them in Afghanistan back in 2009 and destroyed them. There were no riots, no murders, not even a large protest. So I think you need a new argument.

Christians are supposed to be accepting and loving people regardless of what other people happen to believe in.

You clearly do not understand Christianity. This statement is not supported by any Christian teachings.

These men should be punished for what they have done but it is not all their fault how they have reacted.

No they should not, and the fact that you think they should disgusts me. The US military has gone to great lengths to accommodate Islamic belief and rebuild the country of Afghanistan. You would think that our Afghan "friends" would have a little patience and understanding when a mistake like this was made. Nope, they riot and call for the heads of the US military personnel involved. The understanding that you devote so much of your second paragraph to is a two way street, but your "idea" of understanding has the Western powers bending over and taking it from the Afghans. Let me remind you and the Afghan people that the US military has the capability to reduce the country to the backwater third world nation that it started as, and can leave it as such. However, we have chosen, rather unwisely I think, to try to give the country a new start in the hopes that the Islamic terrorists will not be able to regain control. However, as this debacle drags on, it becomes increasingly clear that was an asinine assumption.

yeah tell that to the women who are stoned to death for daring to exist or the gays that are hung for daring to exist or the christians that are beheaded for daring to exist. that saying only pertains to straight muslim men, everyone else is born for the express purpose for the muslim man to subjugate, persecute and murder at his whim

Many of those posting here are beginning to see that Islam, as a whole, is going to be a dangerous and ongoing threat to any non-Islamic country. There are still some who are unconvinced. If what happened on 9/11 didn't convince them and what they see daily reported in the news doesn't convince them we can only pass them by. It is exceedingly difficult to find a peaceful Muslim. There are those who say they fall in that category but lying to a non-believer is an act of merit to followers of Islam. Who can you trust? Their acts are better indicators. Building mosques at the sites of military victories is standard practice. One is going up near where the Twin Towers stood. Sharia Law is creeping in everywhere there is a sizable Muslim population, as are honor killings. The Muslim Brotherhood is the enforcement arm of Islam. If you can't find a moderate Muslim it is because they fear the Brotherhood and well they should. This is about more than burning the Koran. It is about a deep seated blindness that is prevalent in America. We refuse to see the enemy at the gate, indeed we pander to it.
