Bangladesh reportedly closes border to refugees from Myanmar violence

Rohingyas from Myanmar sit on a jetty by the river Naf after being arrested by Border Guards of Bangladesh while trying to get into the country on Monday.

Refugees from violence in Myanmar are reportedly being prevented from crossing the border into Bangladesh, according to a leading medical charity.

Médecins Sans Frontières – or Doctors Without Borders – said in a statement on its website that it was also “extremely concerned” that victims of recent clashes in Rakhine state are not receiving treatment.

It said it had been forced to suspend its work there because of the fighting that began on June 9.

Fighting breaks out between Muslim and Buddhist groups in Myanmar

“MSF is extremely worried that victims of the clashes are not receiving emergency care, and about the ongoing healthcare needs of our patients,” Joe Belliveau, MSF operations manager, said in the statement.

“Our immediate concerns are to provide emergency medical services, get food and supplies to people, and get our HIV patients their lifesaving treatment,” he added.

Muslims flee burning homes during sectarian violence in Myanmar

“People seeking refuge and in need of food, water and medical care should be allowed to cross the border,” Belliveau said.  “In both Myanmar and Bangladesh, MSF is trying to reach those affected by the violence, but they should also be allowed to reach us.”

MSF said it had been providing medical services in Rakhine for 20 years, focusing on maternal health and infectious diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

Bangladesh, Pakistan and many basket case nations, keep the outflow borders open and inflow borders closed.

When most don't care for religion much these days, followers of Islamic cult, especially Sunnis, are fast marching backwards to their seventh century desert tribal days of rapings, lootings, killings and genocides of non-Muslims.

We see Muslims inventing problems in most of the non-Muslim nations.

Even in the US, we can notice these actions!

When Muslims form more than five percent, downhill march starts.

Muslims are inventing problems in Myanmar as in Thailand, Philippines, India and other places.

Most of the Muslims in Myanmar are from Bangladesh. These Muslims have ruined Bangladesh beyond repair and now they are sneaking or creeping into neighboring nations.

When they form more than 30 percent then it is Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Lebanon (few decades back)

In Muslim majority nations, they kill each other!

Better wake up before it is too late on inventions of problems by followers of Islamic cult!

@Jonathan-1982062: FYI - Pakistan is the country who accepted over 1 million afghani refugees during the war of Afghanistan and Russia and most are still living there with their second generations have turned to grown males and females. Besides that many bangladeshi are still in Pakistan who comes in Pakistan in order to make their lives better when flood affect their country. Your information lacks a lot of geographical knowledge. Blaming Muslim is simply racist because you can simply read the article and it clearly states that most victims are actually Muslim. People like you who simply stereo typed by media and because of your bias attitude, it is easy to blame one group without understanding the real issue and reasons behind this.

Do you think that Iraq is better now? Who will be blamed for millions of civilians killed in Iraq? Killing innocent people is terrorism no matter you do it from caves or within Pakistan or a command from Washington.

When read, please read articles without any prior emotions or judgement about one group of people and please make this world little better instead of spreading your judgement that is full of hatred towards a group.

Yes, exactly!!! Simply shame on you! Your agenda is simply to bash Pakistan and nothing else. Article has nothing to do with Pakistan.

Who brought war to Pakistan and Afghanistan? It was Russia and US Sir! Learn the details instead of watching Fox news and other medias whose agenda is to blind fold common man. Pakistan's issues are because of Afghan wars. We got drugs and weapons in Pakistan because of Afghan wars.

Your comments have nothing to do with article and this is my last reply to show your real picture that "Your agenda is simply to Bash Pakistan"

I am out of this gate now.

Rayhan khan: By listening to and following some criminal Wahhabi clerics and Islamic scholars, don't give your lectures and spins.

Since the birth of Pakistan (in 47) is there any crimes which Pakis have not done?

You people did massive genocides of minorities (Hindus, Sikhs) in the beginning. You people killed millions of them within two years.

Then you people did genocides of your own Muslims: Baloochs, Shiites, Sufis (love and peace people), Ahmedias.

Some Pakis have become so intolerant Islamic heroin addict beasts that they have started blasting them while praying in the mosques on Fridays and blowing up hospitals to kill more.

You people exported Islamic radicalism and terrorism along with Saudi fundings all over the world. In most of the terrorist activities all over the world, Paki signature is there.

It is difficult to call Paki Islamic bigots and mad people as humans.

Why only out of the gate? Please get out of all non-Muslim nations at the earliest.

After ruining Pakistan, why are you people in our nations?

Bye, bye too you Pakis as you will be going back to your "beloved" Pakistan once for all!

Bangladesh has its own population problems. Maybe we will be in their shoes 10 years from now if we don't close our borders.

Surely you exaggerate. The U.S. will be like Bangladesh in 10 years? Really? To enlighten you, legal immigration into the U.S. is controlled, so that should not be a problem. As for illegal immigration, currently the *net* rate of illegal immigration (illegal immigration minus deportations and voluntary departures) is negative right now, meaning more illegal immigrants are now leaving than entering. Consequently, your projection of the U.S. being like Bangladesh in 10 years is incredibly far off the mark.

The Muslims are Bengalis who have crossed the border into Burma for years with no papers and settled on Burmese land. There are about 800,000. They then turn around and blame the Burmese Buddhists for not allowing them to become citizens and also to have Muslim law as their law rather than secular laws. Since the Muslims consider Burmese Buddhists as infidels, they show them no respect and attack their temples. Eventually the Burmese got tired of Bengalis. When they fight back, the Bengalis accuse them of attacking them because of their religion. Why is it that Muslims are fighting every religion on the planet? Jews and Christians in the Middle East, attacking the U.S. 9/11, Hindus in India, Christians in Nigeria, Animists in other parts of Africa, Buddhists in Thailand and when they cannot find another religion to attack murder one another. Syria with Shiites and Sunnis.

Sufis are singing and dancing "love" and "peace" face of Muslims. Muslims came through this face in many places including Afghanistan and Paki areas.

Now Sufi mosques are blown up on Fridays in Pakistan and even hospitals are bombed such that more of those injured are also dead.

The fate of Shiites (who form 18 percent) in Pakistan is no different.

Of course, during the massive genocides of Hindus and Sikhs during 48-50 Pakistan, all the moderates and different sects joined hands. Hindus and Sikhs, who formed about 23 percent in 47 and they were reduced to two percent in no time.

In Bangladesh portion, Hindus formed 45 percent and now they hardly form ten percent!

This is the condition of maddening intolerance of the followers of Islamic cult!

Well, well, these very people line up to come to the US, Britain and European nations. They bring their baggages with them.

These refugees need to consider changing their religion to Buddhism. that is the religion of the new land. Muslim invaders have a precident of destroying Buddhist culture, and the people of Myanmar know this. The obliteration of the 1500 year old Bamiyan Buddhist sculptures in the sandstone cliffs of Afghanistan are testimony to the contempt that Islam has toward the Buddhist faith. In the 9th century the Islamic invaders destroyed Afghanistans Buddhist culture and defaced the iconography. The Imams and Islamic scholars continued their vandalism and destruction until recent times when they were able to obtain better explosives. According to the Koran, it is acceptable and encouraged to attack and plunder the unbelievers. Do we expect the people of Myanmar to graciously allow the trojan horse in? Buddhism is a peaceful and generous religion, but has been pushed to the point of groing some teeth.

And now, sadly, these refugee families are even rejected by thier own ummah.

By changing to Buddhism these refugees would acknowledge the culture of the host and not endeavor to destroy it. I am certain that the people of Myanmar would change thier hearts.

In case you weren't aware they were emigrating to Myanmar and were expelled because they were Muslim. If they are going to emigrate they should change thier religion to that of Myanmar. That was my point. Myanmar is primarily Buddhist.

They are returning to their homeland Bangladesh.

Why is this? We did not allow Ruhingas because as far we are over populated country how could we get them in our border? Myanmar won't return them again... How will we feed the people, we are fade up of our poverty. We don't have enough job for our people. What they will do if we open our border for them. We have no work for these people. Please guys ask myanmar why are not they accepting the people to their country? The people are their inhabitants. And please guys don't blame on islam. This is not religious issue, this is about Nations.

              Reply#10 - Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:03 PM EDT

Anwar, it is entirely about religion. The religious precedent of Islam has already been set, and people of other religions are weary. Afghanistan was once a Buddhist people, but the invasion of Islam made Buddhism extinct in Afghanistan. The contempt for, and imperatives to destroy all other religions is clearly written in the Koran and Hadith. The Taliban had full religious justification to demolish the 1500 year old Bamiyan Buddhist statues. Per Islam, they correctly dismissed them as haram idols.

If you do not want these people back, then encourage them to change thier religion to Buddhism to appease the current dwellers of Myanmar. It shouldn't be a problem, if religion isn't the issue, as you say.

If you have problems in your Bangladesh, Pakistan and other Muslim nations of over population, unemployment, Islamic radical madness, no law and order and others, it is not our problems.

Who asked to produce like human manufacturing machines?

Why not the Wahhabi clerics and scholars give solutions?

If you invent problems in your nations, it is your job to solve them and not ours to solve them.

Nor we people need you liabilities and curses on earth in our nations to invent more problems for us!

In a perfect world there would be no violence so there would be no need for refugees to cross borders. Bangladesh have every right to close their border as it's their country that will have to bear the weight of thousands of people in need of housing, clean water, food, clothing, education and protection should the violence follow them over the border - all things they can barely provide for their own people. It is a decision that should be left up to the people of Bangladesh. Médecins Sans Frontières is asking them to accept masses of people in a move that may endanger the lives of thousands of their own countrymen.

To end the violence ...ha.. Any religion that uses violence against others, should be banned from trading with the rest of us. Either we absorb Islam into the judeo-christianic ethic, sans the violent teachings, or we outlaw it and any religion teaching violence . Freedom of religion cannot extend to violent or oppressive teachings or behavior.

I support Bangladeshi government stance for not letting them in as at least it`s getting some international attention. And it`s provoking some urgency that this problem must be resolved. As Aung San Suu Kyi herself calling Rohingas `kolor people`, if these people once they get in they will stay in Banla for ever. And most western nations will show total indifference to grant them refugee as these Rohingas are freaking muslims. I personally have one solution to this problem. Bangladesh will send a Bangladeshi born buddist to Myanmar for every rohinga seeking Bangladeshi citizenship (in a peaceful manner). Also not sure the writer of this article aware or not that there are several hundred thousand rohingas illegally living in Bangladesh. Many of these Rohingas getting fake Bangladeshi passport and engaging in many crimes abroad which is destroying our country`s image. Finally this country Myanmar is most ill managed country in the globe with no rights for minority groups at all. I am all for nuking that country unless they straighten out.

Rohinga's root to Myanmar dated back to 8th century. (source: ). Rohinga people belong to Myanmar. period

                    Rohingas should become Buddhists.

Or else, they should go back to Muslim Bangladesh.

                    PERIOD!!

My dear fool friends for your kind information I would like to inform you that the Jamayate Islam(Muslim political party) is pushing our government to open the border for the Ruhingas. So certainly you can understand how much a muslim brother loves another brother. But Sir this is our fate, we are very unlucky not to having places, employment, food and the better livelihood like yours. We don't have enough advantage to give them when they'll be in our country. Believe me my friends this is not about religion matter. As you are saying guys, the ruhingas are Bangladeshi Nationalities, this is not true. the people has left for Barma from Indian subcontinent and of course you guys know which country was included to the subcontinent . So Myanman government should have give include them into their nation. Lets come to religion. In Bangladesh there are so many other religious people are living. We did not ever force them to change their religion into Islam. Moreover our govt is giving them extra opportunity for their livelihood. they are getting advantage in getting jobs and so many national facilities. We don't ever distinguish religion inside our Bangali Nation. Please guys stop blaming on islam in this matter and this is our unluckiness that we can't give them permission to cross our border and also theirs.

In the current Pakistan, it has been within two years and in your Bangladesh portion it has been done through 47.

Your Jamait-e-Islam is one of the culprits!

After ruining Bangladesh, at 20 millions of Bangladeshi Muslims have sneaked into India.

You people are not only an international national liability, but you compound bigoted hardliner Islamic criminals' activities by telling too many lies, giving too many spins and do other inhuman actions.

You people can do your Sufi love and song dances well! If you were in Pakistan, you would have been blown up on Friday while praying.
