Umpires send Joel Peralta’s confiscated glove to MLB offices in New York

Jun 20, 2012, 12:58 PM EDT

Rays reliever Joel Peralta was ejected from last night’s game after Nationals manager Davey Johnson called the umpires’ attention to pine tar on his glove and now the confiscated glove is on its way from Washington to New York.

Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that the umpires shipped Peralta’s glove to the MLB offices for further examination, which means a suspension is probably looming.

According to Kilgore an official ruling is unlikely until tomorrow, but the precedent for a “foreign substance” is 10 games. In the meantime Peralta will be available out of the Rays’ bullpen tonight, which should make for some interesting drama if manager Joe Maddon calls him into the game.
