Description: Breeding residents and local migrants (some endemic to the region), wintering or migrating neotropical migrants, and non-breeding austral migrants call all be found in the region.

Geographic Extent: The region includes Bermuda, the islands and waters of the Caribbean Basin, and the islands and waters off the northern coast of South America.

BCRs: Caribbean and Caribbean Sea (PBCR 81).

Political Units: The region includes the interests of many nations: Bermuda, Bahamas, Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Domincan Republic, Antigua & Barbuda, St. Kitts & Nevis, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Barbados, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, the Netherlands (the islands of Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten), Canada (St. Pierre et Miquelon Archipelago), France (the islands of Martinique, Guadeloupe, St. Martin, St. Barthelemy), Great Britain (the islands of Turks & Caicos, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Montserrat), the United States (Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Navassa) and Venezuela (Caribbean islands).

Plans, Implementation and Resources

The Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds is the organization through which regional-scale waterbird conservation actions are developed and coordinated. The Society and its members have developed a number of programs and networks for the benefit of waterbirds.
Note: in this context, waterbirds has a broad definition, including seabirds, coastal waterbirds, wading birds, marshbirds, waterfowl (ducks, geese and swans) and shorebirds.
