  • Mouth of the Pecos River Closed.

    Currently the confluence of the Pecos and Rio Grande is closed because of the low water. It is not safe to enter that part of the river. Up river travel of the Pecos River is still open to boaters.

    The 277 South Picnic Area is now re-oppened to the public.

A Borderland Paradise

An oasis in the desert, Amistad National Recreation Area is located on the US portion of the International Amistad Reservoir. Amistad, whose name comes from the Spanish word meaning friendship is best known for excellent water-based recreation, camping, hiking, rock art viewing and its rich cultural history. Amistad is also home to a wide variety of plant and animal life above and below the water.

With an estimated 1,400,000 prehistoric artifacts in the park’s museum collection, Amistad National Recreation Area has the third largest collection in the National Park Service.
