Student Weed Scientists Recognized During First WeedOlympics (Aug
29, 2011)
Weed Science Society of America.
University students from Guelph, Ohio State, Purdue
and Virginia Tech took top honors in the recent WeedOlympics,
an event recognizing the best student weed scientists
in North America. About 150 individuals participated
in a variety of events -- from identifying weeds
and calibrating sprayers to solving weed management problems
likely to be encountered on the job.

National Estuarine Research Reserve System.
The National Estuarine Research Reserve System's GRF program produces high quality
research focused on improving coastal management while providing students with
the opportunity to contribute to research and monitoring at a reserve. As part
of the Reserve System, each National Estuarine Research Reserve provides opportunities
for students to address research questions and estuarine management issues of
local, regional and national significance. GRF funds support management related
research projects that enhance scientific understanding of the Reserve System
ecosystem, provide information needed by reserve managers and coastal decision-makers,
and improve public awareness and understanding of estuarine ecosystems and management
issues. The application deadline is Nov 1 each year.

Aquatic
Plant Management Research Scholarships Available
Northeast Aquatic Plant Management Society.
The Northeast Aquatic Plant Management Society (NEAPMS) announces the
availability of scholarship funds and/or student stipends for college
students focusing in the field of aquatic plant management.
Scholarships in the amount of $5,000 are available to graduate students
that are studying some aspect of aquatic plant management or algal
management.
Student stipends up to $5,000 are available for undergraduate students
working on a project related to aquatic plant management.
