Rapid Response

Rapid Response is one part of a three-pronged approach to prevent the spread of brown tree snakes. The three approaches are Education, Interdiction, and Rapid Response. Educational materials are available from this web site to inform the public about brown tree snakes and the problems associated with them (Educational approach). Pathways from existing brown tree snake locations have been identified and transportation routes have been hindered (Interdiction approach). Rapid Response is the dispatch of a team of trained biologists to investigate, locate, and capture brown tree snakes that occur in the United States (Rapid Response approach).

How Rapid Response Works:

1. Sighting is made in the United States

2. Call is made to the Brown Tree Snake hotline (1-877-STOP ANS) to report the sighting

3. An investigator will conduct a phone interview with the person who made the sighting to acquire additional information, such as description of the snake, time of the sighting, habitat features, etc.

4. Trained team of biologists is dispatched to the sighting location

5. Search area is defined

6. Search is conducted to locate the snake
