Georgia Law wins National Legal Ethics and Professionalism Moot Court Competition

 
Mercer Team Georgia Law students recently captured first place in the Mercer University School of Law National Legal Ethics and Professionalism Moot Court Competition.  Third-year students Chandler L. Smith and Timothy F.J. "Tim" Dean comprised the winning team, while third-year classmates Nneka A. Egwuatu and Scott F. McAfee finished in the runner-up position. McAfee was named the tournament's best oralist.  This is the second year in a row that Georgia Law has won this competition.

The UGA School of Law Staff Council recently presented Administrative Associate Deborah Baker with the 2012 Emma P. Terrell Distinguished Employee of the Year Award. This award is given annually to recognize staff members who demonstrate an outstanding work ethic, commitment to service and exceptional job performance in addition to the cooperation necessary to increase the quality of education and service provided by the law school.

Woodruff Chair in International Law Diane Marie Amann was recently appointed by Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda as the Special Adviser on Children in and Affected by Armed Conflict for the International Criminal Court. In this role, she will support and advise on Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) policies, training and awareness with regard to children in and affected by armed conflict.

State Bar of Georgia Midyear Meeting Alumni Reception

Georgia Law graduates are invited to attend a reception on Jan. 10 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in conjunction with the State Bar of Georgia Midyear Meeting in Atlanta. This year's reception is hosted by William D. "Bill" Barwick (J.D.'74), L. Norwood "Woody" Jameson (J.D.'88) and the Duane Morris law firm. All guests are asked to pre-register by Jan. 4.

Harvard University's Professor of Law Mark Tushnet will present.  A light lunch will be provided at noon followed by the presentation at 12:30 p.m. Attendance is by invitation only. RSVP is requested.

January 18, 2013 - 8:00am - 3:45pm

Panelists will discuss changes to Georgia's new evidence code and will reflect upon the nation-wide evidence reform movement as a whole. CLE credits are offered for the event. Registration is free, lunch and breakfast will be provided (although those seeking CLE credits must bring a check payable to the State Bar Association).

 

Dean Rusk Center
for International Law and Policy

The Dean Rusk Center was established in 1977 to expand the scope of international law and policy initiatives at the University of  Georgia School of Law. Today, the Rusk Center, which is housed in Rusk Hall on UGA’s North Campus, provides a forum for collaboration and debate on issues of global importance, administers international education programs, and sponsors law school outreach to diverse partners around the world.
