Regional Invasive Plant Mapping

Southeast United States

UPDATE (May 2008): Final maps and data available for download!

Please visit our Downloads page

We are seeking anyone with knowledge of invasive species in the Southeast United States to participate in a mapping project. The goal of the project is to develop the first comprehensive, high-resolution maps of Chinese/European privet (L. sinense/vulgare), kudzu (P. montana), and cogongrass (I. cylindrica) across 11 southeastern states.

This project is part of the Science, Technology and Environmental Policy Program in the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. Dr. Bethany Bradley is the project supervisor and a research associate in Dr. David Wilcove's group.

Researchers at Princeton University are conducting a mapping project on three invasive weeds / invasive species in the Southeast US. Their goal is to collect the distribution and abundance of Chinese/European privet, kudzu, and cogongrass from people familiar with these species. The researchers aim to produce the first high-resolution maps of three of the regions most pervasive invasive weeds. Once these maps are developed, Southeast weed managers would be able to determine hot spots of invasion, better coordinate management across the region, and attract funding to eradicate or contain these species and mitigate the impacts in areas of widespread infestation of invasive species / invasive weeds. invasive species, invasive weeds, mapping, mapping weeds, invasive mapping, princeton invasive weeds,
