  The Sulphur Springs Valley is a winter paradise for birds of prey. Up to twenty species may be found here between November and March, including eagles, falcons, buteos, accipiters, harriers, kites and owls. SABO's Hawk Stalk tours take you down highways and back roads in search of these magnificent predators and other species that share their habitats. Along the way, your expert naturalist guides will share their knowledge of the identification, behavior, ecology, and history of the valley's raptors, Sandhill Cranes, sparrows, and other wintering and resident birds.
  

  These all-day tours depart at 8 a.m. from downtown Bisbee (see map) and return around 4 p.m. Participants travel in a small tour bus (minivan for groups of 5 or fewer), with frequent stops for roadside birding and short walks. The group will stop for lunch in a local restaurant (separate checks). Tours begin Thanksgiving weekend and continue most weekends through February. We recommend registering for this event at least 1 week in advance.
  

  Winter 2011-2012: $75 per adult for members of SABO, $85 for non-members; $40/members, $45/non-members for children age 10 to 16 when accompanied by an adult. Educational handouts and transportation from Bisbee are included. For more information, contact SABO.

  The Arizona Game & Fish Department's Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area between Bisbee and Elfrida is an oasis for breeding and migrating birds and winter home to hawks, eagles, falcons, owls, waterfowl, songbirds, and thousands of Sandhill Cranes. This 2-hour bird walk begins at 8:30 a.m. Picnic facilities are available, and participants are encouraged to bring lunch as well as drinking water (the site has restrooms but no potable water). The walk includes general birding around the main wildlife viewing area and adjacent trails; a post-walk highlight is watching the Sandhill Cranes return from their breakfast in nearby farm fields (dependent entirely on the cranes' schedule, of course).

  $6 per person for adult members of SABO, $12 for adult non-members; $3/members, $6/non-members for children age 10 to 16 when accompanied by an adult. Reservations are recommended; pre-paid registration is refundable only if SABO cancels the walk on account of weather, road conditions, or other access issues.   This Presidents' Day weekend workshop, led by SABO naturalist and recovering sparrow-phobic Sheri Williamson, begins with a classroom session on Saturday morning at beautiful Casa de San Pedro Bed & Breakfast, followed by field practice on Saturday afternoon along the San Pedro River and Sunday morning in the Sulphur Springs Valley, excellent locations for a good variety of sparrows and other birds.
  

  $95 for current SABO members and/or guests of Casa de San Pedro, $105 for non-members/non-guests, including field trip transportation to the Sulphur Springs Valley and handouts.   Fiesta de las Aves ("Festival of the Birds") features a variety of activities for birders and other wildlife enthusiasts. The festival is a traveling affair, with activities taking place at a series of outstanding birding locations in Cochise and Santa Cruz counties, including the Huachuca Mountains and San Pedro River. This "footloose" format encourages broader participation, reduces the cost of most field trips, and spreads the economic benefits of birding tourism to more communities.
  
  The festival is part of the nationwide celebration of International Migratory Bird Day.
