2011 ASBMB STEM Seed Grant Recipients NamedChem Lab

Jul. 18, 2011--The ASBMB is pleased to announce the ten recipients of the 2011 ASBMB Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Seed Grant. Each award is worth $2,000 and is to be used to support the development of a K-12 STEM outreach program and/or partnership. More... 

 

For Researchers Seeking Cures, ASBMB Urges Uniform Federal Policy on Embryonic Stem Cellsstem cell marker

July 12, 2011 – The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology this week called for passage of federal legislation to establish a uniform regulatory landscape for the derivation and use of human embryonic stem cells. Calling existing legislation “ambiguous” and citing and “the constant specter of judicial challenges” that researchers face, the society representing thousands of biomedical researchers insisted that the promises of embryonic stem cell research are in peril and the development of much-needed therapies and cures is being delayed. MS Research: Myelin Influences How Brain Cells Send SignalsChen GuJuly 22, 2011-- The development of a new cell-culture system that mimics how specific nerve cell fibers in the brain become coated with protective myelin opens up new avenues of research about multiple sclerosis.
