In a poll commissioned by NASF and released today in support of Arbor Day, voters across the country were found to strongly value forests as sources of clear air and water as well as providers of good-paying jobs and essential products.

Get out and celebrate! NASF promotes the campaign for 2011 Year of Forests

NASF and its partners encourage everyone to get out and celebrate forests this Earth Day and throughout the International Year of Forests. In a recent feature article on MSNBC.com, NASF Executive Director Jay Farrell says IYOF is more about responsible management than outdoor recreation. "Whether it's federal, state, private or even just urban trees, the nation couldn't do without forests. [They're] critical infrastructure that everyone appreciates even if they don't understand all the benefits."

State Foresters Praise New USDA Green Building Strategy

NASF applauded a new strategy from U.S. Department of Agriculture that will promote the use of wood as a green building material. USDA's strategy will direct the U.S. Forest Service to preferentially select wood in new building construction while maintaining its commitment to certified green building standards. Announcement of the new pro-wood policy came from USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack at an event launching the U.S. celebration of the International Year of Forests March 30 in Washington, DC.

State Foresters Help Deliver National Strategy for Wildland Fire Management

A new roadmap for interagency wildland fire management across the country has been released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of the Interior (DOI). Representatives from NASF played a key role in the crafting of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy.

NASF leads coalition to urge support for priority Forest Service programs in FY2011 budget

NASF led a coalition of organizations urging support for priority Forest Service programs and funding levels for the 2011 budget. The letter, sent to members of Interior Appropriations, acknowledged the nation's forest infrastructure as critical in providing numerous public benefits and stressed the importance of programs that assist private forest owners with their efforts to conserve and sustain their land.
