The AMSR-E instrument suffered an anomaly early this morning (10.4.2011), most likely due to an issue with the antenna mechanism. AMSR-E began to exhibit anomalous behavior, which caused on-board fault protection software to spin down AMSR-E. AMSR-E is not operational at this time and there is no AMSR-E science data being produced. The JAXA AMSR-E team and NASA are investigating the problem. Updates will be provided as the situation evolves.

Other Aqua instruments are continuing to operate nominally.
