During its October 2011 Meeting, the National Fish Habitat Board endorsed an enhancement to its communications and messaging to reflect the importance it places on the partnerships that drive its efforts. From now on messaging and communications will focus on the National Fish Habitat Partnership, increasing emphasis on the coalition of groups working to reverse declines in fish habitat across the United States. In the past, messaging and communications were focused on the National Fish Habitat Action Plan, which is the primary tool that the coalition uses to guide its activities.

Fish Habitat Benefits From More Than $3 Million In Funding For 2011
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will provide more than $3.4 million to support 84 fish habitat projects in 38 states across the nation under the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP). An additional $9.8 million in partner contributions, over $13.2 million in total, will go toward restoring and enhancing stream, lake and coastal habitat, as well as improving recreational fishing and helping endangered species.

"Net Worth" Released by US Fish & Wildlife Service
The fisheries program of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in association with state agencies and other conservation organizations, contributes $3.6 billion to the nation’s economy and supports 68,000 jobs across the country, according to a new report issued by the agency.
Overall, hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation contribute an estimated $730 billion to the U.S. economy each year, Salazar noted. One in twenty U.S. jobs are in the recreation economy – more than there are doctors, lawyers, or teachers.
Lieberman Introduces Legislation to Improve Waterways, Protect Fish Habitats
(WASHINGTON, DC) –Today, Senator Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) announced the introduction of the National Fish Habitat Conservation Act. This legislation, which would significantly advance ongoing efforts to restore and protect fish habitats, improves the health of America’s waterways and ensures that the United States has robust fish populations well into the future. The legislation would establish the most comprehensive effort ever attempted to treat the causes of fish habitat decline.
