HTC has updated its bootloader unlock database with a few more devices, this time the Desire HD and additional Desire and Wildfire models.

So, keep it up, HTC, and Motorola better follow along.

Sony (Not Sony Ericsson) Unveils the Xperia Ion

Back in October, we were greeted by news that Sony was set to buy out the remainder of Sony Ericsson for a cool $1.45 billion—a move made with the hopes of delivering better product integration and bolstering patent holdings. Fast forward two-and-a-half months, and now we have our first purely Sony phone since the 2001 merger—and what a phone it is!

The Xperia Ion by Sony will be the first Xperia-branded phone to pack 4G LTE connectivity. The goodness doesn’t stop with network speeds, as the Ion also comes loaded with a 4.6″ Reality display with Bravia technology and a . . . READ ON »

Ice Cream Sandwich Update for Asus Transformer Prime Pushing Out Today!

Pinch me; I must be dreaming! About a week ago, Asus gave word that the Transformer Prime would receive Google’s latest tasty treat on the 12th. In a surprise move, Asus started the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich roll-out today to lucky device owners worldwide!

Barring strange budget tablets that no one really wants, the Transformer Prime is now the first real tablet to be officially updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. Now this brings up the pressing question as to why the Motorola Xoom—a Google Experience Device and Google’s lead device for Android 3.0 Honeycomb—has not yet been updated. . . . READ ON »

Nokia Launches the WP7-Powered Lumia 900

Nokia Launches the WP7-Powered Lumia 900

It’s no secret that Windows Phone 7 hasn’t exactly taken off. Yes, we have a vibrant hacking community in our midst, and the revolutionary Metro interface is nothing short of spectacular; but for some reason or another, the sales figures have simply not kept pace with Google and Apple’s juggernauts. While part of this is due to Microsoft’s late arrival to the modern smartphone OS party, I wager that the lack of a killer flagship device is also holding back the OS. After all, Google has the Nexus line and Apple obviously has its iPhone.

Stephen Elop believes that Nokia . . . READ ON »

New Transformer Prime Model has 1080p Screen

The ASUS Transformer Prime, the first tablet to have a Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, is already up for a refresh, undoubtedly keeping pace with the race to 1080p on tablets, also being brought forth by Acer and their upcoming Iconia A700.  The upgraded Prime, model TF700T, will have a full 1920×1080 resolution IPS+ panel and will also have an upgraded 2MP front-facing camera. Also different will be its shipping operating system, which will be Android Ice Cream Sandwich, instead of Honeycomb found on the original Prime. Look for the upgraded Prime to arrive in Q2 for $600/$700 for 32/64GB.. . . READ ON »

HTC Titan II with 16 Megapixel Camera and LTE Headed To AT&T

The rumoured LTE Windows Phone from HTC, which some might have seen floating around the internet as the Bresson, has been officially announced as the HTC Titan II. Apart from a slightly modified back design with curved elements and an LTE radio, it packs a massive 16 megapixel camera. Yes, you read that right – we’re a bit afraid that 16 megapixel on such a small sensor will actually degrade instead of improve picture quality, but are definitely open for a positive surprise. As for video recording, there’s no 1080p support, so you’ll have to stick with 720p.

Tool To Make Modifying Framework-res a Little Easier for Beginners

For those who are budding developers, tools that help make the process a little easier to understand and a little faster to learn are always welcome. And, of course, all the respect to the pioneers of Android development who had to learn without nifty tools like these.

XDA Member wesf90 is among the most recent to contribute to the rich, and immense, list of tools to help developers out with his, as he puts it, “snazzy” tool called Framework Flasher.

Here’s a description of the tool and it’s use from wesf90:

It extracts your framework-res.apk file and allows you

Up until recently, AT&T’s Android offerings have been somewhat lacking compared to the other major American carriers. And while the Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy S II Skyrocket have certainly helped close the gap, there’s no denying that other carriers simply pack a stronger punch.
