Agriculture is a major driver of global environmental change. To maintain crop production levels pesticides, fertilizer, and manure are applied to croplands around the globe.
Understanding the current level and spatial patterns of these applications would greatly improve the ability to assess human and ecosystem exposure to potential and recognized toxicants and identify areas that might be sensitive to aquatic eutrophication, nutrient depletion, habitat destruction, and species extinction.
