For the fourth year in a row, Vermont has been ranked as the healthiest state in the country. The state did well in categories including low incidences in violent crime and low-birth-weight-babies, as well as low rates of infectious disease.
After months of revolt, Syria's health care system is collapsing, with half of the country's public hospitals destroyed. Yet Syrian doctors continue to treat patients. Now, a group of Syrian-American doctors is stepping in to help bringing crucial supplies and training.

Winooski Mayor Michael O'Brien says he plans to listen to the F-35 fighter jets at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida Wednesday while standing in a position that is comparable to downtown.

Weather permitting, Governor Peter Shumlin and the mayors of Burlington and Winooski will head to Florida Wednesday to hear an F-35 fly overhead. The politicians defend the trip even though it's sponsored by a strong supporter of the fighter jet.

On the last mono-sequential day until January 1, 2101, we'll hear about orbifolds, psychogenetics and Math-O-Vision as we discuss practical applications of math, hear what the state police are doing to lower the number of traffic fatalities and we head out to find the perfect Christmas Tree.

Federal taxpayers will pay the lion's share of the restoration for the Jersey shore damage caused by Sandy. But since most of those who will benefit are private landowners on the shore, one N.J. lawmaker wants to prohibit the shore towns from charging access fees to their public beaches.
Farm-state lawmakers are urging leaders to include a farm bill as part of any budget deal to avert year-end tax increases and spending cuts. But others argue that Congress shouldn't toss the farm bill into a giant package because it would very likely stifle debate and amendments.
Democrats are worried that cuts to the program will go beyond the impact on the people it serves. It will also affect the Affordable Care Act, which calls for expanding Medicaid to as many as 16 million more people. The states are watching closely because the federal government has promised them it will pay most of those additional costs.
