Coastal Resiliency Coalition looks for new ways to shape south Baldwin County

A vigorous oil-spill recovery for the Baldwin coast will require some different ways of thinking by business and community leaders, says Bob Higgins, chairman of the Coastal Resiliency Coalition. Working to jump-start the process, the coalition is considering new approaches to lure revenue to the area, such as creating a tri-city business cooperative among Foley, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, through which they would share tax revenue on big developments. Bay Area Food Bank shifted resources to cover spill needs but feel 'basically ignored' by BP

The Bay Area Food Bank ran a "mobile pantry" program trucking food to areas along the coast where volunteer organizations and church pantries could no longer meet the needs in wake of the Gulf oil spill. Officials there say they need $1 million to recoup both their hard costs and to buy replacement food for other clients. They expected significant help from BP, but so far have gotten only $45,000 through a state grant program funded by the oil giant. Full story »
