RSVP: Wings of Hope soars to success

Blackbird SR-71 pilot Brian Shul autographs copies of his book, "Sled Driver: Flying the World's Fastest Jet," for guests at Wings of Hope.

Two things can be credited for the success Maureen Shul had in staging her first Wings of Hope Gala. First, a growing number of people want to do what they can to raise research dollars for scientists seeking a cure for pancreatic cancer. Second, the featured speaker was Shul's brother, Brian, who was shot down and left for dead while he was a fighter pilot in Vietnam. Brian's story didn't end in the jungle, though. He was rescued and went on to become a pilot flying the top-secret Blackbird, the world's fastest and highest-flying jet.
