What Is Ask FactCheck?
This is where we respond to questions that we are frequently asked or find to be of general interest.
What Questions Will You Answer?
We're most likely to answer questions of fact relating to current political or policy issues. Please don't ask for our opinions: We try hard to keep those off these pages. We have no answers for "what is the meaning of the universe" questions, nor can we peer into the future to see who's going to win an election. We welcome questions from students, but they shouldn't expect us to do their homework assignments.
Did Michelle Obama and her daughters use taxpayer money to take a European vacation?
The first lady, her mother and her children did stay in Europe for a private vacation after the president completed an overseas trip on official business. However, no taxpayer money was used for the first family's personal expenses.
Does the House energy bill subject owners of existing homes to an energy efficiency audit before they can sell?
Rep. Boehner and Rush Limbaugh got this wrong. The Realtors and home builders associations say there's no such requirement in the bill, as do we.
Is it true that persons older than 59 can't get heart surgery in England?
There's no such prohibition on heart operations in England, as a chain e-mail claims.
Is the ACLU suing to have cross-shaped headstones removed from military cemeteries?
The ACLU has filed no such suit, and it hasn't sued to "end prayer from the military" either.
