Get Them While They're Cold: $1 Tickets to Antarctica for Companions

I wish I had posted about this earlier, but if you hurry, there's still time to book passage for two people on a boat that leaves for Antarctica from Ushuaia, Argentina. It's like Hoth without the tauntauns down there. Quark Expeditions[...] read »

Limiting yourself to a plant-based diet does not have to mean you are cut off from global[...] read »

Kentucky Court Rules Expedia Not Required to Remit All the Room Taxes it Collects

Many localities tax hotel room occupancy and admissions to entertainment events.  It does not seem to be the type of thing that should be raising nexus issues.  The rights to occupy the rooms and attend the events are being traded in cyberspace, though, which complicates things.  I recently wrote about the City of Chicago trying to get StubHub to collect admissions taxes on the premium that ticket sellers charge over face value.  They did not have any luck.  Orange County Florida is working on a[...] read »

Forbes Wine of the Week: 2009 Masia de Bielsa Garnacha Vinas Viejas

The problem with sleuthing out good wine under $10 is the recommendations usually come with provisos like, “This is pretty good for the price,” or “This isn’t bad for the style of wine.” Rare is the time that a wine recommendation for vino under $10 is just, “This is a fantastic wine.” read »
