  • For the past two years, I've had the privilege of working with Lisa P. Jackson to help lay the foundation for a sustainable energy future. Today, I’m honored to introduce her as a member of this year’s TIME 100. Find out why I think we need more leaders like Lisa in the profile below.

I wanted to share my remarks with you, so that you can have the latest information on the assistance and expertise we’re providing to the Japanese response and recovery efforts:

As a temporary stop gap for oil, CNG is a definitely superior solution than drilling for more fossil fuels, and supporting dirty industries to continue doing it at our expense. I urge you to spend more time on Hydrogen and electrical drivet...rain ideas, but CNG has to be used for about 10 years just to reduce the CO2 we keep building up from both transportation and electricity production via coal burning facilities. Eliminate these issues and you save children from Asthma and poisoning for at least four generations. Isn't that alone worth the effort to try? As a stop gap, support CNG and then, spend more time on energy transfers such as fuel cells and Hydrogen, than burning things to release their inert energy. sources.See More

  • Since the online town hall I hosted in January, many of you have inquired about the modifications I made to my mail slot to eliminate the draft it was creating in my home. So I thought I’d give you a glimpse of it (with some assistance from my wife Jean). Amazing what an old quilt, some bubble wrap and a magnet can do to save energy!

Jacob, that is a myth! Cushing, Oklahoma has about 500 BILLION barrels of oil waiting to be refracted and refined by refineries in Tulsa, Houston, Tx, and Louisiana. The pipeline is full, the refineries are slowing down this process because... demand is actually down, since prices rose, people drive less and the result is they have high prices with absolutely no problems with supply. You are being played by the oil industry, and you are obviously not seeing what they do not want you to see. It isn't a surprise that the leaders are not addressing this issue. They are deliberately enabling big oil to make more funds, because then they get more taxes! It is counterproductive, however, since fewer gallons means fewer taxes, but who said these people were smart? Oil companies can let this oil sit in Cushing to years, and their investment is safe as long as oil stays high. If it drops, even slightly, watch what begins to happen as supply outstrips demand to the point that they can't recover their buy orders! It is greedy SOBs in Oil that are doing this, and you can bet they have diversified in these past few weeks to head towards buying Natural Gas supply lines and NG companies...It is simply corporate greed and our government doing nothing to stop it. You may not remember the Windfall Profits Tax, but I do! It worked great agains big oil but small companies went bust, because they were exclusively dependent on the Federal subsidies we are directly supporting oil drillers with via the Depreciation supports for oil wells that do not help the Royalty owners, only the well drillers, another lawyerbased system we should dismantle!See More

Last night, we had the chance to visit with a few of the researchers and scientists behind the exciting projects on display at the 2011 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit Technology Showcase. The following projects represent a few of the highlights we found:
  • Why it’s important to invest effectively and efficiently as we work to win the future:

As part of President Obama’s commitment to winning the future, the Department of Energy will make critical investments in science, research and innovation that will create jobs, grow the economy, and position America to lead the global clean energy economy. Next week, the Administration will unveil
  • I’ll be joining President Obama today at Penn State as he tours labs focused on energy efficient building solutions. He’ll discuss proposals to invest in innovations that create jobs and strengthen America’s competitiveness.

Speaking of innovation, here’s a great example of how our investments are already beginning to pay dividends:

Extremely safe, the waste cannot be made into a weapon (100% anti-proliferation), cannot melt down under the LFTR/MSR design (the reaction slows itself as the temperature rises), and Thorium is 3.5x more abundant in the Earth's crust than Uranium.

      • Scott Bellefleur Dr. Chu...this video inspired me to white coat two of my flat front porch roofs on an apartment building I own. The Florida sun just bakes these roofs. Used a silicon based special white coating and rolled it on. Should also keep it water tight, give the roof longer life, and cut the heat. Glad to see the DOE leading by example. Let's get the renewable energy program going now. Solar, wind and geothermal.
