Signs you won’t see in America and other wordlessness

We just returned from vacationing in Panama. The signage there is sometimes, well, unintentionally hilarious. Here are some examples.

I just love the crossing and the market stand signs. Wish we had something like that to change it up. Didn’t understand the Outs Meals (Hot Oatmeal), I guess Google translation doesn’t work all the time.

Glad you had a great time and happy you’re back in Houston.

  2. Elizabeth A. says:

Love the crocodile one!! Was it meant to be sarcastic?

  3. Jonna says:

I really like the one with the guy crossing the street with a big badonkadonk.

  4. lara says:

I like the crossing one. Apparently those in Panama are known for having junk in their trunks. Does everyone who runs their have muscles?

Oh, and the one with the car and the animal. Does that mean you could get a ticket for hitting an animal? If so, I hope their squirrels behave better than ours.

My favorite sign of all time is in the San Diego area and warns of Mexican families crossing illegally.

There are signs like that here, just generally in English. Or is that what we were getting at? Or just the crossing signs?

Of course, the hacked signs in the US are even better.

    • From Katy says:

Of coarse yours are better, Why don’t you just let well enough alone?

    • Gage Creed says:

Maybe she will as soon as you learn how to use words in the proper context. Hell, she even spelled it for you and you didn’t get it right.

  6. B says:

I’ve come across one in the UK saying “do not let you dog foul the footpath.”. Lol

And at Brazos Bend “do not annoy the alligators” which I find funny!

  7. Amy says:

Thanks so much for sharing these. I love the barking dog, and Hercules crossing the street. I’m thinking we need to beef up on our sign art.

I know I’m being picky, but Panama is in America, just not the USA.

    • From Katy says:

You are not being picky. You are right, America is from the tip of Alaska (The Bering Strait), all the way South to Chile/Argentina(Cape Horn).
I still don’t understand why people refer only to the US when they say America. I think I know why, but; that is another topic for a different day.

    • Joyce Ann says:

      Amy,
Thanks for speaking up about the arrogant “America” error. Years ago, I taught a bright ESL student from Peru who promptly corrected anyone making the error that Los Estados Unidos (U.S.) and Canada are in Norteamérica. Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Chili, Argentina, etc., etc. are in Suramérica.

I guess this part of the online newspaper doesn’t have an Editor and “Spellcheck” wouldn’t detect such errors. Is it very, very sad or disgusting and depressing? I wonder if the error was overlooked for political, cultural, economic, social, or “other” reasons? Certainly, such mistakes were not made due to sloppy and/or lazy proofreading or just plain-old ignorance. Perhaps, this was a trick to see if any readers were paying close attention and/or had the courage to be “politically-incorrect” or the nerve to stand against condescension–a form of the “offense du jour”: Bullying! :) (Hope this isn’t returned to me covered in diacritical marks made with red pencil identifying MY mistakes!–Heaven Forbid!)

  8. Amy says:

I also love the skull and crossbones who looks like he’s enjoying thinking about an explosion of toxic gases :-D

  9. Sharon says:

Love the signs! Just out of curiosity…what type of animal is near the sign in the first picture?

  10. John Smith says:

Driving across the causway between Lagos, Nigeria and Victoria City, there are signs that say “Do not deficate or urinate from the bridge”. Lok out below!

  11. scott says:

the signs in Brazos Bend State Park also say “Do Not Molest the Alligators”

  12. Jessie M says:

I like the one I saw in Europe to warn people that they could get electricuted; it was a picture of a man bending backwards being zapped by a bolt of electricity…good times.

  13. michelle says:

Where can I buy #3? The one of the hottie built guy running across the street?
