International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge Exhibition in the AAAS Gallery

A new art exhibit in the AAAS Gallery features winners of the International Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge, an annual competition sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the journal Science. The competition recognizes individuals for making science more understandable for the general public. Notable pieces include a detailed model of a particle of HIV, a game based on plant biology, a video showing how Einstein's theory of relativity relates to global positioning systems (GPS), and a close-up photograph of a banana cockroach.

The exhibit features 37 works by 82 artists. The AAAS Gallery is located at 12th and H Streets, N.W., in Washington, D.C. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Neuroscience and the Military Capitol Hill Briefing

AAAS and The Dana Foundation, in cooperation with the U.S. House Armed Services Committee, invite you to a Capitol Hill public luncheon briefing on neuroscience and the military. Topics include brain-machine interfaces to help veterans cope with injuries, drugs designed to enhance brain function, and related ethical issues.

Speakers include Leigh R. Hochberg, Center for Restorative and Regenerative Medicine, Providence VA Medical Center; Martha J. Farah, Center for Neuroscience & Society, University of Pennsylvania; and Jonathan D. Moreno, Center for American Progress. The briefing will be moderated by AAAS CEO Alan I. Leshner.

AAAS Arctic Division Annual Meeting

The AAAS Arctic Division invites you to its 2011 Annual Meeting, “Ecosystems: Understanding the Cycles.” This year’s meeting will focus on climate change’s role in the rapid transformation of terrestrial and marine Arctic ecosystems, and how these changes are influencing the health of human and environmental systems.
