The Office of Strategic Coordination (OSC) is one of five offices of the Division of Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives (DPCPSI) within the Office of the NIH Director. The OSC works with staff and leadership across the NIH to identify and promote NIH-wide scientific opportunities supported by the NIH Common Fund, including the programs of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research. As a component of the Office of the Director, the OSC provides the NIH Director with information necessary to make funding decisions for the Common Fund. The OSC coordinates a strategic planning process that engages the broad community of stakeholders to identify emerging opportunities and priorities. The OSC also manages the Common Fund, making funds available to the Institutes and Centers that implement the programs. New! American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) funds in the Common FundThrough the ARRA, the Common Fund has received $130M to be spent in fiscal years 2009 and 2010. The overarching goals for these funds at the NIH are the same as for the ARRA funds distributed to the NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs), but the ARRA funds in the Common Fund will support scientific areas that span the missions of ICs and have been identified through the Common Fund strategic planning process.
