Employment and Unemployment Monthly Release, June 23, 2011
New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.9 percent in May 2011, down from 7.6 percent in April and 8.3 percent a year ago. The national rate increased to 9.1 percent. The statewide unemployment rate (based on data from the Current Population Survey, also known as the household survey) has now fallen for three straight months. During that period, the decrease in unemployment far exceeded the increase in employment, reducing the civilian labor force by more than 1 percent.
