Assistant Secretary Martin to Participate in Seminar on Measuring Teacher Effectiveness

Carmel Martin, assistant secretary for Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, will welcome participants in a seminar on “Getting Teacher Evaluation Right” this Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

The seminar will bring together researchers and educators who are part of The System for Teacher and Student Advancement (TAP). TAP works to radically revamp teacher evaluation by using multiple measures, including student achievement gains. Educators will share what measures make teacher evaluation systems work – accurately measuring teachers' effectiveness and at the same time providing necessary support to improve teacher performance. They will discuss methods that measure the range of teachers' knowledge and classroom skills in ways that correlate with students' academic growth.
