Ten States to Receive Funds to Support Education Jobs

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that ten states will receive millions of dollars to support education jobs.

"There is a huge sense of urgency to get these funds out the door," said Duncan. "These education dollars will help these states keep thousands of teachers in the classroom working with our students this school year."

Arkansas to Receive $40 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Aarkansas will receive $40 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Arkansas to Receive More Than $119 Million in Additional Recovery Funds

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $119,807,496 is now available for Arkansas under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Arkansas has received $779,540,450 through the Recovery Act. The state recently reported that recovery dollars have been used to provide funding for more than 600 education jobs from Oct. 1 to Dec.

This funding will lay the foundation for a generation of education reform and help save hundreds of thousands of teaching jobs at risk of state and local budget cuts.
