U.S. Department of Education Senior Official to Participate in Principals' Partnership Summer Leadership Institute in Phoenix, Arizona

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Communications and Outreach Services Massie Ritsch will participate in the 10th annual Principals’ Partnership Summer Leadership Institute on Monday and Tuesday, July 18-19, in Phoenix, Ariz. During his Monday session, “The Importance of School Leadership in Fixing NCLB,” Ritsch will discuss the administration’s priorities for education and the department’s blueprint for revising the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, also known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB). On Tuesday, Ritsch will participate in another session—“Fixing NCLB: Sharing Ideas with the U.S. Department of Education”—and will explore what the Department is proposing for school leaders and will give these leaders the opportunity to offer feedback.

More than 500 public high school principals are expected to attend the institute. This year’s theme is “Strengthening Education’s Future by Strengthening Education’s Leaders.” Information sessions will address such topics as the future of education, principal leadership development, ways to motivate students and teachers, and bullying. The summer institute, sponsored by Union Pacific Foundation, will begin on Sunday, July 17, and run through Wednesday, July 20.
