Assistant Secretary Alexa Posny, who oversees programs that serve America's 6.8 million children with disabilities as head of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, will deliver opening remarks at the 2011 Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) Project Directors Conference Monday in Washington. Posny will give remarks on the importance of early intervention, families and communities, personnel preparation, college-and-career readiness and partnerships for children and youth with disabilities, as well as discuss budget priorities.

On Tuesday, OSEP Director Melody Musgrove will discuss her priorities for OSEP and recognize contributions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Part D investments to improving results for children and youth with disabilities.

More than 1,000 project directors, state special education leaders and disability community representatives are expected for the three-day event which annually brings together recipients of discretionary grants managed by OSEP’s Research to Practice division.
