Eight States to Receive Funds to Support Education Jobs

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that eight states will receive millions of dollars to support education jobs.

"There is a huge sense of urgency to get these funds out the door," said Duncan. "These education dollars will help these states keep thousands of teachers in the classroom working with our students this school year."

Mississippi to Receive $47 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Mississippi will receive $47 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Mississippi to Receive More Than $129 Million in Additional Recovery Funds

U. S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that an additional $129,382,422 is now available for Mississippi under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. To date, Mississippi has received $974,268,327 through the ARRA. The state recently reported that recovery dollars have been used to provide funding for more than 4,300 education jobs from Jan.

Mississippi To Receive $7.4 Million To Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest-Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that Mississippi will receive $7.4 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. The funds are part of $546 million available to states for the SIG program in fiscal year 2010. In fiscal year 2009, states received a total of $3.5 billion for the SIG program.

More Than $321 Million in Recovery Funds Now Available for Mississippi to Save Jobs and Drive Education Reform

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that more than $321 million is now available for Mississippi under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. This funding will lay the foundation for a generation of education reform and help save hundreds of thousands of teaching jobs at risk of state and local budget cuts.
