U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy to Visit New Salem-Almont High School in North Dakota to Discuss Rural Education

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy will visit New Salem-Almont High School in New Salem, N.D., on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Following the classroom visits, Duncan and Pomeroy will hold a North Dakota Education Roundtable discussion and media availability. They will discuss the challenges and opportunities for rural schools.

Eight States to Receive Funds to Support Education Jobs

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that eight states will receive millions of dollars to support education jobs.

"There is a huge sense of urgency to get these funds out the door," said Duncan. "These education dollars will help these states keep thousands of teachers in the classroom working with our students this school year."

North Dakota to Receive $9 Million to Turn Around Its Persistently Lowest Achieving Schools

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today announced that North Dakota will receive $9 million to turn around its persistently lowest achieving schools through the School Improvement Grants (SIG) program. These funds are part of the $3.5 billion that will be made available to states this spring from money set aside in the 2009 budget and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
