AT&T ForHealth

Using mobile technologies and smart networks to improve the quality of care, reduce costs, and contribute to a healthier world.

Announcing AT&T ForHealth

Slow technology adoption is a big challenge in the healthcare industry today and the U.S. healthcare industry is currently at a ‘tipping point’ for fundamental change.

AT&T ForHealth℠ is a new practice area that will accelerate delivery of new wireless, and advanced networking services to help the healthcare industry improve patient care and reduce costs nationwide.

Under the AT&T ForHealth umbrella, AT&T is developing and delivering advanced IT solutions in four areas: mHealth, telehealth, cloud-based healthcare solutions and Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE).

AT&T is conducting several pilots of new technology with hospitals, doctors, health plans, institutions and agencies responsible for providing medical services and patient care.

About AT&T ForHealth

AT&T ForHealth is comprised of IT sales and marketing professionals with healthcare industry expertise. Its focus is to deliver advanced IT solutions to healthcare industry businesses such as hospitals, insurers, pharmaceutical companies, suppliers and physicians.

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has exclusively endorsed a suite of AT&T services that enable the sharing of health information and applications. AT&T's solutions will also help providers to meet government mandated meaningful use requirements.

mHealth

mHealth

AT&T's mHealth Solutions are a new set of IT solutions for healthcare that combine mobility technologies, devices, connectivity and applications to help drive down medical costs and deliver improved patient outcomes.

mHealth Solutions in Action

  • Wireless technology now allows diabetes patients to manage their disease real-time and on-the-go. AT&T mHealth Solutions presents DiabetesManager® launches with AT&T and Health Care Service Corporation employees with goal of improving healthcare outcomes and reducing costs.

The new mHealth solution helps health plans, disease management organizations and corporate payers effectively provide diabetes patients with tools to help them manage their disease and reduce costs.

AT&T mHealth Solutions presents DiabetesManager® is an initiative between AT&T and WellDoc®, the maker of DiabetesManager®, one of the first mHealth solutions to receive clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration for adults with Type 2 diabetes. The end-to-end mHealth enterprise solution combines the DiabetesManager application and feedback engine with AT&T’s highly secure hosting environment, support and customer care specifically designed to enable AT&T and its customers to comply with all applicable HIPAA requirements.
  • AT&T is providing eCardio Diagnostics with machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless data and mobile connectivity for near real-time, remote monitoring of cardiac patients, allowing them to recover at home rather than spend additional time in the hospital.
  • AT&T is providing wireless connectivity for Vitality GlowCaps, which send visual and audio reminders to patients to remind them to take their medication.
Telehealth

Telehealth

AT&T is uniquely positioned to deliver telehealth solutions by combining our powerful array of network resources, video conferencing, and networked medical devices to provide virtual visits and monitoring between physicians and patients.

AT&T's Telehealth Solutions utilize video and audio conferencing technology to enable patients in rural or under-served areas to consult via live remotes with medical specialists and even receive examinations in the comfort of their primary physician's office, community hospital or clinic.

Telehealth Solutions in Action

  • AT&T is working with the University of California to create the country's largest telehealth network. More than 800 facilities throughout California will be linked through the California Telehealth Network by the end of 2011.

Cloud-Based Healthcare

AT&T is delivering a new set of cloud-based, medical image archive applications and security services that will give healthcare providers highly secure access to clinical data in near real time, scaled to handle the huge bandwidth demands driven by live video, images and medical records.

Solutions planned to be delivered by AT&T on-demand and “as-a-service” include managed hosting, storage, security and consulting services.

Cloud-Based Healthcare Solutions in Action

  • Baptist Health System and Henry Ford Health System will pilot a new cloud-based healthcare solution, AT&T Medical Imaging and Information Management service that will quickly connect doctors to patients' medical images, regardless of which device originally took the image, allowing them to offer faster treatment. The solution helps providers to store, access, view and share patient medical images and information inside hospital systems and outside with referring physicians and other authorized facilities over a highly secure infrastructure.
  • AT&T announced a strategic alliance with Acuo Technologies to deliver cloud-based medical imaging storage solutions to help healthcare institutions solve their increasing data storage challenges.

Healthcare Community Online

All of AT&T's planned offers will be available as stand-alone networking solutions or can potentially be compatible with AT&T's flagship health information exchange offer, AT&T Healthcare Community Online.

This industry leading cloud-based service permits providers within a healthcare system to easily exchange health information and share applications in a highly secure manner. The solution will help to reduce or eliminate duplicate tests and unnecessary costs, enable providers to comply with requirements for use of electronic health records and enhance clinical workflow, ultimately improving the quality of care for patients.

The American Hospital Association (AHA) has exclusively endorsed AT&T's Healthcare Information Exchange (HIE) services, recognizing the strength of AT&T Healthcare Community Online and other voice, data networking and wireless services that AT&T provides to enable healthcare industry participants to easily exchange health information and applications.

Healthcare Community Online in Action

  • John Muir Health and MuirLab, a full-service lab facility offering comprehensive clinical and anatomic pathology testing to medical communities in Northern California, have contracted with AT&T to deploy AT&T Healthcare Community Online. The service will enable cloud-based secure transfer of data between the Lab Information System of MuirLab and its client hospitals.

Innovations

The AT&T Foundry is a core component of AT&T's strategy to drive innovation, building on the resources of AT&T Labs and AT&T's crowd-sourcing platform, The Innovation Pipeline. The company holds "speed dating" or "fast pitch" proposal reviews to evaluate projects for inclusion in the program, and anticipates more than 400 sessions to be held in locations across the globe this year alone.

AT&T Foundry development tracks include mHealth, HTML5, new ways to deliver rich media, advanced check-in and location-based applications, and APIs -- application programming interfaces that make network services easily available to developers.

Smart Slippers

AT&T Labs researchers are collaborating with hospitals and universities on "smart slippers" that wirelessly monitor a patient's gait to identify pressure signatures. Capturing changes in acceleration and pressure measurements, the sensors could alert caregivers to respond quickly to falls, or possibly help prevent them. A clinical trial testing the networked insole is now underway.
