Education Department’s Director of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships to Participate in 48th Annual Islamic Society of North America Convention

Brenda Girton-Mitchell, director of the Center for Faith-based and Community Partnerships at the U.S. Department of Education, will participate on a panel at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) Convention in Rosemont, Ill., Sunday, July 3. The panel will take place at 2:15 p.m. This session will feature staff from different government agencies who will share details about career opportunities in the federal government, as well as relevant program information on various public outreach and engagement efforts. In addition to the panel, Girton-Mitchell will also engage in several meetings with Muslim faith leaders.

The ISNA is the biggest social and spiritual event for Muslims in North America. ISNA has been very involved with facilitating meetings with government officials and local communities to address issues of perceived discrimination and acts of intolerance. These engagements have helped Muslim communities fully leverage government resources to address issues such as the construction of Islamic Centers, the bullying of Muslim children in public schools, and better access to government programs and services.
