The Secretary will deliver remarks at The Atlantic's "The New Work Era" conference, bringing together leading journalists, government officials and CEOs to examine the “skills gap” and its effect on American workers, businesses and the country’s position in the global economy. The Newseum, Knight Conference Center, seventh floor, 555 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C.

Wednesday, July 20

Noon – 1 p.m.
The Secretary will join author and President Obama's half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, along with Good Stuff Eatery head chef and former "Top Chef" contestant Spike Mendelsohn, for the third event of the Let’s Read! Let’s Move! summer enrichment series sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The Secretary, Soetoro-Ng and Mendelsohn will read a children’s book to students, join the children in playing games and participate in fitness activities. Students from Horizons Greater Washington, the HHS/ED Children’s Center will participate. Lyndon Baines Johnson Department of Education Building plaza, 400 Maryland Avenue, S.W., Washington, D.C.

Thursday, July 21

Noon (meeting begins at 10 a.m.)
The Secretary will join Attorney General Eric Holder at the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention quarterly meeting. The council will discuss policy and program recommendations developed by federal agency partners, designed to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in juvenile justice, improve education for at-risk youth, and strengthen juvenile transitions to adulthood. Council participants will discuss next steps for finalizing a set a recommendations for Congress. Justice Department, Office of Justice Programs, 810 Seventh St., N.W., third floor conference room, Washington, D.C.

1:30 p.m.
The Secretary will address a conference of the Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, a White House-led interagency collaborative that supports local communities in developing the tools they need to revitalize neighborhoods of concentrated poverty into neighborhoods of opportunity. Secretary Duncan will discuss the first and, recently launched, second rounds of the Department of Education's Promise Neighborhoods program and address how the program contributes to the Initiative.
