With its outstanding fuel economy,† Fusion Hybrid was an obvious choice for Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com 2011 Top 10 Green Cars. But the driving dynamics, comfort and available SYNC® technology features were truly what won them over. While “packing the latest and most potent gas/electric package in Ford history,” according to Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com editors, it “balances impressive performance with excellent creature comforts and mileage marks that simply blow most other mid-size hybrid sedans into the weeds.”
Scott Burgess, The Detroit News
When January sales figures arrived last week, the automotive conventional wisdom was spun on its head. The Ford Fusion outsold the Honda Accord. Chevrolet sold nearly 30 percent more Cruzes than Toyota sold Priuses. What's going on?
For years, millions of people have been saying American automakers couldn't make a decent car. That only proves the point that millions of people can be wrong.

Redesigned with an emphasis on fuel economy, one Focus version is expected to get 40 mpg. The Focus also has a sportier look than the old version and plenty of technology in the cabin for twentysomethings.

Even though it can be debated that the 2011 Hyundai Elantra may have stole the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2012 Ford Focus was still there ready to impress.

This January Ford CEO Alan Mulally will take the stage as one of the keynote speakers of the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It'll be the fourth time Mulally has headlined CES, and this time he'll have one of The Blue Oval's most anticipated new products in his corner. The 2012 Focus has been named the official car of 2011 CES, an honor that will give the forthcoming C-Segment blockbuster the spotlight right in time for its launch.

An all-news Focus ST will debut at the Paris auto show on September 30. It will be a thinly disguised concept version of the eventual production car. And the very good news is that this time we won't be left out.

The Blue Oval has just revealed the next generation 2012 Ford Focus Wagon, one day before the car's official debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
Edmunds' AutoObserver.com, March 2010
There aren't that many true concept vehicles slated for the Geneva motor show this week. The few that are unveiled are bookended by a heavy presence in two sectors: small cars and luxury models.

For many years lucky Europeans got the 'good' version of the Ford Focus, but starting in 2011, American car buyers will finally get to buy the real thing.
CarandDriver.com, January 2010
One of Alan Mulally's objectives since becoming CEO at Ford in 2006 has been to develop products on a worldwide basis. This sounds familiar, if only because another Ford CEO, Alex Trotman, did the same thing back in the 1990s. This approach resulted in products such as the Contour (not a rip-roaring success) and the original Focus (which was).
CarandDriver.com, January 2010
The current U.S. Ford Focus is a disappointment to those who know how good the car was when it went on sale in 1999, as well as anyone who has driven the second-generation European-market Focus. While the rest of the world got a sharper, better handling, and more luxurious Focus for 2005, we merely got a heavy refresh of a car that was, in effect, already six years old. (It originally went on sale in Europe in 1998.) We then got an ugly refresh of that refresh for 2008.

The company that ushered in the SUV Age hopes to make compacts cool and remake its image along the way. Ford unveiled the 2012 Focus today at the North American International Auto Show. CEO Alan Mulally is betting the slick compact will help Ford shake its reputation for building SUVs like the Explorer and make the company a leader in the growing small-car segment.

As we begin 2010, it looks like the compact C-segment is shaping up to be one of the most highly competitive segments in the auto industry. The Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, VW Golf and Jetta, along with the new Chevrolet Cruze are fighting for the hearts, minds and dollars of the masses. And then there's the Ford Focus.

This is the all-new 2012 Ford Focus. From our perspective it's one of the greatest automotive comeback stories in a long time. After too many indifferent refreshes it's finally, and awesomely, everything enthusiasts have been begging Ford to build.

A Ford vehicle billed as the company's first "world car" made its debut at the opening of a defiantly optimistic Detroit motor show, as America's battered car industry insisted it was rising from the ashes of its worst crisis since the second world war.

DETROIT - The next-generation Ford Focus will make its world debut this week at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show and will go on sale simultaneously in North America and Europe in early 2011, with launches in Asia, Africa and South America to follow. Ford also plans to introduce a battery-electric version of the new Focus in 2011.

Ford is in the middle of a domestic renaissance, being the only U.S.-based automaker to gain market share in the tumultuous industry downturn. Ford succeeded with just a few new products - none as big a volume seller as the compact Focus, which gets a complete overhaul for the 2012 model year.
Edmunds' Inside Line
Ford announced today that the redesigned 2012 Ford Focus will use a direct-injected, 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine. This is not the Focus pictured here, obviously, but the eventual Focus production car should end up looking a lot like the C-Max (which uses the same platform architecture) introduced in Frankfurt.

At a time when the most tired of tired Detroit mantras -- "they don't build what anyone wants to buy" -- is akin to holy writ, when magazine covers herald the "Extinction of the car giants," when books are titled "The End of Detroit," Ford Motor Co. is proving once again just how wrong conventional wisdom can be.
