Michael Sullivan, Director 235 Promenade Street Providence, RI 02908-5767 (401) 222-2771 Fax 222-6802 Overview The Director of the Department of Environmental Management works with an Associate Director and three Assistant Directors to develop and implement the agency's wide range of programs to protect Rhode Island's environment from degradation; protect the citizens of the state from public health threats resulting from pollution; and provide facilities that support a diversity of outdoor recreational activities. The Associate Director and Assistant Directors are responsible for overseeing the Department's three bureaus: The Director receives administrative assistance from four Assistants to the Director, who oversee Director's Office and Department operations; coordinate programs that span DEM branches, other state agencies, federal agencies, or involve the General Assembly; administer public information and communications programs; oversee strategic planning and performance initiatives; and undertake projects that do not fall under the jurisdiction of another DEM Office. |
