Conference on English Leadership

 Dear Teachers and Leaders:

Welcome to CEL, the professional home of literacy leaders across the nation.  Since 1970, CEL has offered workshops, conventions and publications that bring leaders together, helping them to develop their understandings of effective literacy instruction and successful leadership practices.

Thirty years ago, as a new department chairman, I attended my first CEL convention. At the time, I was searching for ways to transform writing instruction in my school, and through CEL I developed my understanding of the writing process and learned ways to engage teachers in the hard work to be done in our school.  I learned then what is so true today, that the programs of CEL are very informative, highly coherent, and extremely practical.

On our website, you’ll learn much about our conference.   You may discover our mission and read our vision for 2020. You may meet some of our members and experience some of the thought-leaders in our profession.  And you may learn about our upcoming programs.

We are confident that you will find CEL an invaluable resource for your professional development. ~Patrick Monahan, Chair, Conference on English Leadership
