Franklin Deleno Arthur
Franklin Deleno Arthur, 79, of Malden passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at his home after a short illness.

On the 23rd of April, Frank gave his life to the Lord.

He was born in Malden on January 31, 1932 and was a son of the late Hansford and Hattie Hopkins Arthur. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Thelma Stamper and Rowena Stamper, and brothers, Shelby, Russell, Chester, James and Bill Arthur.

Frank retired from West Virginia Auto Adjusters. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with 101st Airborne Division, and an avid NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Smith Arthur; son, Chris Arthur of Tennessee; stepdaughter, Sherry Jacobs of Malden; brother, Richard (Wanda) Arthur of Malden; sister, Virginia Fox of Malden; granddaughter, Amanda Arthur of Tennessee; special granddaughters, Breanna and Abby; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden with the Rev. Daniel Kelly officiating. The burial will follow the service with military graveside rites in Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft.

Family and friends may call two hours prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

James Robert Boggs, 85, of Huntington, formerly of Cross Lanes, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 9, 2011 at St. Mary's Medical Center.

He is survived by his brother, Doyle (Ethel May) Boggs of Gassaway; his daughter, Jody Boggs (Jimmy) Dean; and his grandson, Jimmy.

Randy Dean Casto, 64, of Ripley died at his home Tuesday, May 10, 2011 following an extended illness.

He was born August 1, 1946 in Charleston and was a son of the late Delbert and Irene Parsons Casto.

He was a 1964 graduate of Ripley High School and served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam.

He is survived by his aunts, Dorothy Hamon of St. Albans and Betty Parsons of Ripley. He is also survived by several cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, in Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.

Douglas Allan Cook
Douglas Allan Cook, 44, of Powellton died May 10, 2011.

He was born December 3, 1966 in Charleston and was the son of Macel Drake Cook of Powellton and the late William Franklin Cook.

He was an accountant with the OFLAC Department of the DHHR in Charleston. He was an honor graduate of Valley High School and a graduate of West Virginia Tech. Doug was a member of the Boomer Church of Christ and also a member of the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his children, Allan Cook and Michayla Cook, both of Nitro; mother, Macel Cook of Powellton; sister, Debra Dangerfield of Glen Ferris; and special friends and co-workers, Robyn Hickman, Leslie Billups, Evelyn Summers and Fred Elswick.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at O'Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery with the Rev. Jason Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Ridge Cemetery, Clover, Roane County.

James Robert Dent
James Robert "Jim Bob" Dent, 77, a former longtime resident of Scott Depot, passed away April 29, 2011 in Cantonment, Fla.

James was born in 1933, a son to the late James Mervin and Sabie Ann Johnson Dent. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict on the USS Lake Champlaign. He retired from Union Carbide Construction, Institute Plant, and was a member of VFW Post 9097, where he held many offices, including Post Commander. He also loved to hunt and fish.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Linda Lee Blake Dent.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Nutter and her husband Steven of Trimble, Mo., Malinda Kopacz and her husband Mark of Cantonment, Fla., Brian Dent and his wife Teresa of Petersburg, Ind., and Robert Dent and Laura Pate of Jeanette, Pa.; his grandchildren, David, Virginia, Brandon and Brianna; and his sisters, Ilene Beaver of Hurricane and Rachael Johnson of Radford, Va.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hurricane with Pastor Charles V. Williams officiating.

Bert B. Dillard, 83, of Pond Gap passed away May 10, 2011 at Cedar Ridge Center after a short illness.

Born Dec. 2, 1927 in Blakeley he was the son of Wesley Frank Dillard and Myrtle Johnson Dillard.

Bert was a retired coal miner of 44 years and a UMWA member. He was a member of Riverside First Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye, and daughter, Kathy.

Surviving are two daughters, Nancy Sanguancheep and husband, Tuy, and Tammy Morrison and husband, Jeff; three sons, Larry and wife Shirley, David and wife, Jenny, and Kevin and wife, Angie; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Naoma Williams and Louise Rucker; and one brother, Ira Dillard.

Service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Cooke Funeral Home Chapel, Cedar Grove with Pastor Keith Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

Donald Rayburn Dodrill, 74, of Birch River died on May 10, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on July 30, 1936 in Nicholas County and was a son of the late George Martin and Leola Deloris Boggs Dodrill.

Donald was retired from Florida Power Company in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a member of Hillview Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, and also attended Walnut Grove United Methodist Church in Strange Creek.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his loving wife, Wanda; son, Nelson Craig Dodrill of Maple Heights, Ohio; daughter, Dawn Rae Ellis of Conyers, Ga.; his brothers, Buford Dodrill of Dille and Roscoe Dodrill of Geneva, Ohio; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William Barry Dorsey
William Barry Dorsey, 42, of Mt. Nebo passed away at his home.

Born March 3, 1969 in Greenville, S.C., he was a son of William and Ruby Riley Dorsey. He was preceded in death by his brother, Stevie Patterson, and brother-in-law, Robin Thornton.

William was a building carpenter.

Aside from his parents, he is survived by his children, William Dorsey of Mt. Mrs. Beverly Ann Drake, 55, of Cross Lanes passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

Born July 27, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter the late Russell Stiles and Dolores Stevens Stiles Paulsen.

She is survived by her loving family: husband, Stephen Mark Drake; and children, Jennifer, Matthew, Jeremy and Kelli Drake; as well as her sisters, Louise Kadlec, Lynn Wright and Nancy Broome. Beverly is also survived by her uncle, John Stevens.

Wilma L. "Billie" Garrett, 84, of St. Albans, was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, May 10, 2011. Wilma died peacefully at her home.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, William C. Garrett; her granddaughter, Amber Garrett Arellano; and her parents, Ira and Nell Goldsmith Bartlett.

She was a homemaker and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 153, Nitro.

Surverna Hicks, 75, of Charleston passed away on May 8, 2011 at Hubbard Hospice House.

She was the daughter of the late Bessie and Aaron Mosley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Hicks; brother, James Mosley; sister, Amanda Cameron; and son, Raymond Mosley.

Surverna held numerous positions throughout her years, the most recent being employed by Multi-Cap as a cook.

She is survived by daughter, Phyllis (Curtis) Moore of Charleston; sons, George, Michael, Ronald, Douglas and Brian (Barbara) of Charleston; and sisters, Delores White, Dorletta Ward and Sylvia Beasley of Charleston and Katherine Washington of Florida. In addition, she is survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are a special nephew, James Hicks; and a special little angel, Mekhi Wright.

Mame Stump Lowe
Mame Stump Lowe, 96, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Akron, Ohio, and Spencer, died May 8, 2011 at Alderman Oaks, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.

Prior to relocating to Florida eight years ago, she resided in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from Glenville State College, majored in education and taught in Spencer. In Akron, she taught at Windemere Grade School, Adult Education and at Akron University.

Her focus in life was educating children and adults. Mame was an avid bridge player and gardener. She was a past member of Akron Woman's City Club, Akron Rose Society, the Ohio Retired Teaching Association, the Order of Eastern Stars and Glenville State College Alumni.

Her husband, Charles O. Lowe, passed away in 1987. She was the last survivor of eight children of Alvin and Maude Stump.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Laurence Clarke of Sarasota, Fla.

Mildred Miller McCoy
Mildred Miller McCoy of Jane Lew passed away Monday, May 9, 2011 at the age of 85.

Mildred was born September 5, 1925 in Webster Springs and was the daughter of the late Adam and Grace Miller.

Mildred was a lifelong resident of Webster County. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Lewis County Senior Center and Grace Baptist Church, Jane Lew, and a former member of the Elk Valley Chapel in Cherry Falls. She and her husband owned and operated McCoy's Grocery for 34 years. She enjoyed visiting friends and neighbors.

Along with her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly McCoy; sister, Rosalene Isenhart; son, Greg Alan McCoy; and grandson, Skye McCoy.

Mildred is survived by her two daughters, Dinah (Oscar) Mills of Jane Lew and Linda (Robert) Blair of Bluefield; son, Bradley (Donna) McCoy of Ravenswood; brother, Adam Miller Jr. of Shallotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Lori Blair Eaton, Kristie Blair Rutherford, Brian Boyce McCoy, Dale Keith McCoy, Trenton Mills and Skylar Mills; and six great-grandchildren.

William Eugene Smith Sr.
William Eugene Smith Sr., 68, of Alum Creek went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ May 2, 2011 after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Lee and Virginia Maxine Jones.

He was born November 12, 1942. He attended Jefferson Junior High and graduated from Charleston High School. William was a member of the Charleston Boys and Girls Club, where as a young man he learned to box and reached the rank of Golden Glove Boxer. He also bowled for Blvd. Recreational Center.

In 2004, he retired form the City of Charleston after 32 years of employment. He played softball for the City of Charleston company league for many years. He also played in horseshoe tournaments for many taverns in Charleston and in Alum Creek. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends after work and at home. He was loved by many people, and was known as "Dad" to many.

We want to give a special thanks to the City of Charleston employees. This is a tribute to say "thank you" to all who knew Bill Smith "Bill-Bill." He loved each and every one of you as family. He spoke so much of you over the years, even more since last August when his health became bad. He said to tell everyone, friends and family, that he loved them all very much. In the presence of Pastor Frank Chapman he rededicated his life to Jesus Christ, also saying later in his prayers that each and every person he knew would do the same. His wife would like to request that whoever you may be, take a moment to recall the times you shared with him, whether at work, after work, at home, playing cards, fishing and so on, to remember the great times you spent with William Eugene "Bill-Bill" Smith, old man, dad and brother. Thank you, Frances Smith.

Bill is survived by his wife, Frances Deana Smith; children, Rebecca Jean Smith, William Eugene Smith Jr., Joshua Lee Smith and Brandy Nicole Smith; brothers, Opie Esman Smith and James Leo Smith; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ricci Allen Stone
Ricci Allen Stone, 57, of Madison passed peacefully from this life on May 6, 2011, surrounded by the comfort and love of his family.

Born June 13, 1953, in Madison, Ricci was the son of Carole Stone of Madison and the late Ernest Stone.

He was a graduate of Scott High School and a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, Madison.

A proud coal miner of Patriot Coal Company, Ricci worked as a chief electrician for Pine Ridge Coal Company. His main concern during his illness, other than his family, was being able to return to his men at work. Ricci's greatest pleasure was spending time with his family on "the Mountain." Many birthday parties, cookouts and campfires were held there, along with four-wheeler and golf cart rides. It was a place of rest and serenity for him. He especially loved the family's yearly beach trip, where he could enjoy time with granddaughters, Olivia and Kayleigh. A lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Ricci looked forward to football season so he could cheer on his beloved Steelers.

In addition to his mother, Ricci leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 33 years, Vickey Jarrell Stone; son, Matthew Allen; and daughter, Angela Nicole, all of Madison; sister and her husband, Becky and Eddie Havens of Huntington; grandchildren, Olivia Stone of Alabama and Kayleigh Ellis of Madison; sister-in-law and her husband, Elaine and Ernie Burns; and brother-in-law and his wife, Mike and Susan Jarrell.

He was loved by many nieces, nephews, friends and family.

James E. Trowbridge Jr.
James E. Trowbridge Jr., 82, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born August 7, 1928, in Huntington and lived the past three years at Willowood Care Center in Brunswick, Ohio.

James was a dedicated employee of Greyhound Bus Lines for 47 years as an accountant. After retirement he worked for Kmart in St. Albans.

James is survived by his daughters, Becky (Keith) Holliday of Ohio and Vicky (Bill) Willows of New York; grandchildren, Julia (Carl), Adrienne, Alex, Danny and Chris.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maysel.

Dorothy Louise Deering Wells of East Bank, formerly of Sharon, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 5, 1915 in Mount Savage, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ebbie Wells; her parents, Emma Pennington Deering and Vol Deering; brothers, Lawrence, Leo and Jack; sisters, Joan Petry, Vivian “Fay” Thompson and Elizabeth Riser; and son-in-law, Aubry Gladden.

She was a lifelong homemaker and the loving mother of Margaret Gladden and Phyllis (Ed) Hagan of Jacksonville, Fla., Randall L. Wells of Louisville, Ky., John (Gail) Wells of Pratt, June (Dan) Bush of Wild Rose, Wis., Thomas Wells of East Bank and Nancy (Ron) Rippetoe of Winfield; and the beloved sister of Max Deering of Cleveland, Ohio.

She was the loving grandmother of Kara, Jeff, Louise, Eric, Jenny, Scott, Jon, Travis, Erica, Joanie and Patrick; great-grandmother of Wesley, Jessica, Dylan, Avery, Ely, Jason, Nathan, Iris, Oliver, Evan and Brittany; and great-great-grandmother of Landon.

She loved to sew and make quilts for all of her family members, loved her flower gardens and was an avid WVU fan.

She will be greatly missed by her immediate family as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of CAMC Teays Valley Hospital for the excellent care given to our mother.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, at Pryor Funeral Home, East Bank with the Rev. Pim Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
