Los Angeles Mayor and former DNC chairman Antonio Villaraigosa is having a spat with actor Charlie Sheen.

The beef? Sheen claims that he partied with Villaraigosa for about two hours in Mexico last month. Villaraigosa says it ain't so.

Here's how it went down: Sheen and Villaraigosa were both in Cabo for a bar opening in December. (It was the same event where Sheen found himself in hot water for making homophobic slurs.)

At the time, Sheen tweeted a picture of himself with the Democratic mayor saying, "He knows how to party," according to TMZ. The tweet has since been deleted.

“I had a three minute conversation with him, I took a picture with him… I take a picture virtually every single day, 50 times, and I took a picture with him. It's as simple as that. I have never said no to anyone who wanted to take a picture. It's just that simple,” Villaraigosa told NBC's Los Angeles affiliate.

He added that he was there for the opening of a hotel and that Sheen's bar is in the hotel.

And then he blamed the media: “You're in that business of making people look bad, of creating some kind of caricature. I’m not in that business. I was on vacation. I deserve a vacation from time to time.”

Sheen told TMZ the mayor was lying.

"I memorize 95 pages a week, so the last thing that I am is memory challenged.  We hung out for the better part of 2 hours, discussing his L.A. roots, his poignant bullet campaign as well as his numeric 3 a.m. lawn-watering tactics," Sheen told TMZ.

He added: "He's a terrific guy, a great mayor and he can drink with the best of 'em: Me.  Quite a memorable night indeed."

“OK, here’s the deal. As of right now, she doesn’t know,” the country singer told Larry King in a web interview published Monday. “I can tell you she’s very interested in changing the world. And she knows that politics unfortunately right now is one of the ways she could do that. But I made her promise that if she should make a decision, that I’m the first to know.”

Ashley, an actress and vocal Democrat, has said she’s “honored” to be considered for political office and, according to POLITICO’s Manu Raju, has been seriously exploring a possible run.

Ben Affleck has bowed out, but now another famous name has been floated for Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry’s seat, MassLive.com reports:

A public radio broadcaster is now encouraging singer/songwriter James Taylor to enter the race for John Kerry’s U.S. Senate seat.

Alan Chartock is president and CEO of WAMC/Northeast Public Radio, an Albany, N.Y.-based station that covers parts of Western Massachusetts. Chartock on Monday penned a blog post urging Taylor to run. Chartock argued that Taylor would have a better chance of beating likely Republican candidate Scott Brown than would Democrat Ed Markey, the dean of the Massachusetts congressional delegation.

“JT, who famously followed that road ‘from Stockbridge to Boston,’ is as much of a hero to the people of the Bay State as General Henry Knox was,” Chartock wrote, referring to the Boston-born Revolutionary War hero.

Chartock cited Taylor’s efforts fundraising for the Democratic Party. During the 2012 campaign, Taylor hosted a concert on behalf of Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren and performed at a rally with Democratic President Barack Obama.

Despite the urging, Taylor hasn’t publicly expressed any interest in running. Chartock said he’s spoken to the singer – who lives in Massachusetts – and has “not gotten any kind of affirmative answer about whether this is something he’d want to do.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s staff welcomed her back to work on Monday with a gag gift: a football helmet. Clinton — who was recently hospitalized for a blood clot following a concussion — smiled as she showed off her new headgear, a State Department photo shows.

Clinton also received a jersey with “112” (the number of countries she’s visited as secretary of state) on the back.

Claire Danes was left speechless after an exchange with President Barack Obama at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, she tells Elle in the mag’s February issue. The actress was with her husband, Hugh Dancy, when she met POTUS (who’s a big fan “Homeland” fan), Danes explained:

 “Hugh was like, ‘We have to meet Obama,’ and we walked over before we could think and found ourselves shaking hands with him. Hugh realized that he’d forgotten to actually properly introduce himself, and he [President Obama] was like, ‘And you are?’ And Hugh was like, ‘I’m sorry, Mr. President.’ I said, ‘I’m Claire Danes,’ and he said, ‘Oh, you’re a fine actress.’ And I said, ‘You’re a fine president!’ And he said, ‘Oh, you’re a finer actress than I am president.’ I didn’t have any retort. Hugh and I went immediately to the bar and had a big shot of vodka.”

Sorry or not sorry? When David Letterman apologized to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for cracking a crude joke about her daughter a few years ago, it wasn’t exactly a selfless move.

“I felt like Sarah Palin was somebody I wanted to continue to be able to make fun of and I felt like if I don’t apologize -- if I don’t sincerely express my regret -- I will not be able to go forward making fun of her," Letterman told Oprah Winfrey in an OWN interview that aired Sunday.

In June 2009, Letterman made a joke about Palin's daughter being "knocked up" by baseball player Alex Rodriguez after photographs showed the Palins at a New York Yankees game. Letterman thought that Bristol, Palin’s oldest daughter, attended the game when it was actually her younger sister, Willow, who went.

And Letterman “truly” regrets that mistake, he told Winfrey. "…I felt bad for the [then] 14-year-old. You know, that was just like, ‘Nice going. You got the wrong daughter.’ That was just a stupid joke that was dumb luck and got worse.”

Actor and occasional political activist Brad Pitt has joined a popular Chinese micro-blogging site, and his first tweet is causing a stir, the AP reports:

The actor's verified Sina Weibo account sent the message Monday: "It is the truth. Yup, I'm coming." That was forwarded more than 31,000 times and netted over 14,000 comments, many expressing surprise. He gathered more than 100,000 followers.

The IMDb.com movie website says Pitt was banned from ever entering China because of his role in the 1997 "Seven Years in Tibet." The government was upset about the film's portrayal of harsh Chinese rule in Tibet.

Arnold Schwarzenegger poked fun at New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Thursday night during an appearance on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

“If Chris Christie runs for president could you get him into shape?” Leno asked the former GOP governor who was also a famous bodybuilder.

“Well, Chris Christie does not have a weight problem — he has a water retention problem,” the governator quipped.

On another political hot topic, Schwarzenegger described the fiscal cliff compromise as "outrageous."

"I think that the American people are so disappointed. I mean, you know, we sent these representatives to go to Washington to do their job and then years after years they bring up the debt."

He added: "Every year it's getting worse and then they sit down and they solve 10 percent of the problem... this is ridiculous. They should all be fired."

Set your DVR. Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards and his family are the subject of a new docu-series premiering next month on A&E, Entertainment Weekly reports:

The Governor’s Wife will star 85-year-old Edwin Edwards and his 34-year-old wife, Trina, along with several of their children from previous marriages. Edwards served four times as Louisiana’s governor over the course of three decades, and also served eight years in federal prison for crimes committed while he was in office. In 2001, Edwards was convicted on bribery and extortion charges. He became pen pals with Trina during his prison stint and they married after his release last year.

The show will focus on Edwin and Trina’s May-December relationship and follow Edwin’s daughters (Anna, a 62-year-old, four-time divorcée and Victoria, a 60-year-old ex-showgirl) along Trina’s sons (Logan, 15 and Trevor, 13).

Some official description: “The series follows Trina as she attempts to fit into the former governor’s upscale world and busy social life while trying to get along with daughters twice her age and corral her teenage sons. Between school projects, running for president of the Homeowner’s Association, fending off skeptics who think she’s a gold digger, and thoughts of adding a baby of their own to the mix, the Edwards clan truly represent a new take on the modern family.”
