The juvenile Violent Crime Index arrest rate fell for the second consecutive year and is down 5% since 2006.

OJJDP has recently released the following bulletins:
  • FAQs on Child Maltreatment and Violent Crime Victimization in the Juveniles as Victims section updated to include the latest data.
  • The annual bulletin, Juvenile Arrests 2008 summarizes juvenile crimes known to the police and arrests made during 2008. In 2008, U.S. law enforcement agencies arrested an estimated 2.11 million persons younger than age 18, a 3-percent decline over 2007.

Half (50%) of the number of homicides committed by known juvenile offenders in 2008 involved multiple offenders. [Read more]

Between 1980 and 2008, the annual number of known juvenile offenders who killed family members changed little, in stark contrast to the number of those who killed acquaintances and strangers. [Read more]
